US sues BP over oil disaster
Gulf of Mexico oil leak: US sues BP over oil disaster

The US is suing BP and eight other firms for allegedly violating federal safety regulations in connection with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

The lawsuit asks that they be held liable without limitation for all clean-up and damage costs.

The Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explosion in April killed 11 workers and spilled millions of barrels of oil over several months.

The oil leak became the worst environmental disaster in US history.

4. check out who the suit missed sueing
"The department's focus on investigating this disaster and preventing future (spills) is not over," Attorney General Eric Holder said at a news conference in Washington. "Both our civil and criminal investigations are ongoing."

The federal lawsuit filed in New Orleans names BP, rig owner Transocean and some other companies involved in the ill-fated drilling project, but not Halliburton -- the project's cement contractor -- or the maker of a key cutoff valve that failed. Both could be added later.

5. Suing BP at present is fine. That in itself will be a major court battle.
And it'll allow each and every elected GOP official to let their constituency know just where they stand on this issue (heh! heh!} Perhaps they'll opt to support it. in the spirit of bipartisanship. If so, the Gulf area may get something close to justice!

K & R!
