What would right wingers be saying about a raffle to win a free abortion?
They are as legal as a glock...

The thing about this story is the fact that only TWELVE tickets have been sold:wtf:

Every week at bowling, we routinely sell 200 raffle tickets..and don't even have to offer a deadly weapon..

1. OMFG, that would get some heads exploding.

As far as the legality goes, how do we know the people who bought the tickets are eligible to own a handgun? Couldn't they be ex-convicts or mentally ill or something? Do we think that the people who sold the tickets did a background check?

3. I'm not sure about right wingers...
...but I know I'm disgusted and nauseated by the joking about something likes. It's a private, personal matter, not something to raffle off. It's deplorable. While I am pro choice, I believe it should be something taken seriously, not something you make a joke out of, because while before 12 weeks, a fetus is a bundle of cells, the reality is the end result if you leave it alone is a human being.

10. Not meant to be joking.. just a comparison about perception
I do NOT advocate such a raffle, and I surely DO "understand" the implications of abortion ( participated in funding an illegal one for my best friend in 1968..Kansas, so I certainly have a dog-in-this-fight)

I merely posed the raffle comparison to point out how gunnies always argue that anythign goes because "it's legal"..but so is abortion (for the time being)

15. Guns and abortions are two different things.
And two different arguments with a whole lot of other implications. I can't get get with you on this one.
Sorry.

8. link to the glock raffle here
http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/2011/09/01/20110901arizona-gop-gun-raffle-politico.html

however my OP, is just a "thought-puzzle" about how a raffle something similarly controversial-yet-legal would be perceived..

I, in NO way, advocate such a raffle..

11. There is a brilliant idea in there somewhere,
We could hold just such a raffle in the heart of the bible belt, $100 a ticket, 1K max tickets sold...and the fundies would buy them out just to squelch the prize and make sure it wasn't used.

Proceeds of course to Planned Parenthood.

13. Be my guest..although you might want to tweak it a bit
for instance:

winner gets a "free procedure" at a "women's clinic"..their minds will take them "there"

14. I'm pro-choice and I find the idea revolting.
Abortion is a necessary evil, not something to glorify with raffles.

17. While I don't think it's an evil,
I agree it's a terrible idea for a different reason. There might be a hundred women that actually NEED those abortions and can't afford them, which means you'll have 99 women that lost out on a raffle to win a medical procedure. I'd be horrified by the idea of a raffle for cancer treatment or heart surgery, and I'm horrified by the idea of this. Competent medical treatment shouldn't be subject to the whims of fate or chance.

so their kid/Mom/Dad/husband/wife/grandma/grandpa can get cancer treatment.:(
