Pipe break causes damage at Eagleton courthouse - costing millions

A broken pipe flooded courtrooms and offices and damaged computers and other high-tech equipment at the Thomas Eagleton U.S. Courthouse in St. Louis on Wednesday, forcing some court hearings to be rescheduled and potentially costing millions of dollars to repair.

The courthouse, completed in 2000, is named after longtime U.S. Sen. Thomas Eagleton, a St. Louis Democrat who died in 2007. At 557 feet tall, it is the nation's tallest courthouse.

Broken main leaks 215,000 gallons of sewage into creek in Creve Coeur

-snip-

About 215,000 gallons of sewage spilled into Smith Creek after an eight-inch sewer main broke near the first block of Chamblee Lane in Creve Coeur, according to the Metropolitan Sewer District.

It appears that the source of the leak was tree root that may have gotten into or under the pipe, LeComb said.

2. That's what happens when infrastructure needs are ignored.
This story, times a million, is going to become very common.

3. The courthouse is only 11 years old.
I don't think it's a problem with ignored infrastructure needs.
