Jared, two-faced (warning: this is seriously creepy)
Edited on Tue Jan-11-11 11:32 PM by Occulus
Look at the differences between the two halves of his "mug" shot. Even without the black eye, it's still scary as hell. My thanks- if that is warranted in this case- to Boxerfan for pointing this out.

The original "mug" shot.

Relatively normal dorky young guy.

Seriously disturbed homicidal maniac.

I duplicated and reversed each half of his face to underscore the difference. Yes, I know doing this makes the photo of the face (any face) creepily symmetrical, but this time it literally makes two different people.

This young man is just gone.

1. Seriously--post a warning. That is intensely creepy and I'm winding down for the night.
I'm not kidding; that is majorly disturbing.

2. Done.
I've done this before with other faces for fun and the result has never been nearly this disturbing.

3. He's gone. Another user on a forum where he posted recognized this
Edited on Tue Jan-11-11 11:19 PM by Catherina
and begged him to seek help or go back on his meds.

This was posted to Jared in a thread called "Infinite Source Of Currency!?!?".

"I have maybe made a mistake is my assessment of your avatar, because for that to be the case, you'd have to be at least somewhat rational, but I think youre frankly schizophrenic, and no that's not an amateur opinion and not intended as an uninformed or insulting remark, you clearly make no sense and are unable to communicate. I really do care.

Seek help before you hurt yourself or others or start taking your medications again, please. Maybe, it'd be better for some there be an infinite source of haldol or cogentin then fiat currency.

I just spend about an hour reading all his posts. They left me with an unshakable sense of sadness.

He seemed gone in them already.

After reading his posts, I believe he wanted to go.

Your thread is disturbing and sad. Schizophrenia physically manifested.

4. I know all of our faces are asymmetrical but
is it normal for head shape and neck size to be so different?

5. Some of the distorion is due to his lopsided grin in the original
and since we can't see his whole body, he may have been propping himself with his left arm or possibly slightly turned.

I'm more concerned with the face, though. I split the thing as close to the center of his face as I could and the two halves just look like two totally different people, even taking those considerations into account.

Creepy as fuck.

19. An adjustment for the tilt of his head should have been made first.
His head and neck are obviously leaning to his right side in the original, so that creates an accentuated, inaccurate difference in the 2 composites.
I'd usually enjoy doing this and posting the result, but not this time.

Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 12:11 AM by Occulus
It would be just as... odd, if I had removed the neck entirely.

Edit: if you simply cover one side of his face and then the other, you can get the same impression. He really does look like two entirely different people depending on which side of his face you're looking at.

41. Recall that the OP photo was taken just prior to a court appearance--where he was going to be
charged with murder and attempted murder.

In another situation, you might have a point--but that feces-eating grin is just prior to being charged with MURDER.

18. If you look at the first photo and just put your hand over the left side and then
just look at the right (creepy) side, it looks like an older man. I just changed from blocking one side and then the other and wonder if in reality he has an odd face like this or if it is the lighting. Very very odd.

21. Shannen Doherty has an extremely asymmetrical face, too.
I remember noticing that once when I was very high, back in the 90s, during that time that she was nearly inescapable. It tripped me out.

But an asymmetrical face doesn't make this guy batshit nuts. Being batshit nuts makes this guy batshit nuts.

24. *I* have a very asymmetrical face.
One of my eyes is set ever so slightly lower than the other, and at a slight angle.

Like I said above, I've used this technique before just for fun; come to think of it, it was used in one of the movies in the "Silence of the Lambs" series, to very great effect. But doing it never left me with chills before....

(That was the scene at the midway fun park, when Clarice was looking for Hannibal and he spoke some lines while hiding behind/sideways from a mirror. That was creepy... but not like this.)

27. Mine is somewhat. Sometimes I think it's more noticeable than others. Expression can have a lot to
do with it.

Bush, (43) has some asymmetry in his face, and I remember thinking he used to -consciously or unconsciously- do some of his goofy squinty and head-bob-y stuff, especially when looking directly at a tv camera, to compensate for it.

That may be where the whole mental illness thing comes into it with Loughner's mug shot... usually people put forward a public expression on their faces- that dude is just unmasked, and I'll agree, in his case, it's fucking ugly under there.

30. Having seen someone descend into schizophrenia,
I think I'm going to temper my judgment of him and his actions. If he's really mentally ill- and it certainly seems at this point that that's the case- I can't advocate a death penalty, nor can I advocate prison.

Medication in a padded room for a long, long time seems more appropriate somehow. In all honesty (mostly because of what I saw happen to my friend over a period of many months)... I feel a little sorry for him, especially since he apparently gave off all sorts of warning signs in the months immediately prior to these events.

34. Perhaps it ought to.
I'm not comfortable at all with giving him the death penalty. It's clear that there was something very, very wrong with him at some point, and it's becoming clear that this was a condition that not only developed over time, but in fact became worse and worse.

I was totally prepared early on to accept him as a right-wing crazy. The more I learn about him, the less sure of that I am. It seems he was not only crazy by the time he pulled the trigger, but shithouse rat crazy.

I'm glad I won't be on his jury.

42. I think if we're going to make that "not guilty via insanity" available to ppl who commit acts like
this, we need to have an insanity "treatment" that guarantees the person is never free to walk among us again. Never.

I agree he's sick, really sick- and I'm against the death penalty- but the way we deal with sick, violent animals, for instance, is, we put them down.

I agree that face symmetry signifies nothing - it's like reading someone's mental health by the bumps on their skull - total bullshit.

31. Well, no, they're not.
Not really.

As I said above, now that my outrage has died down and more information has come to light... I feel a little sorry for him. His mind descended into the mouth of madness, he broadcast (literally!) several cries for help, and nobody lifted a finger for him. Now, people are dead as a result.

We have to start caring more about mental health in this country, or shit like this will continue to happen and, as social stresses increase, will become ever more frequent.
