What if high school kids resisted abstinence only education in the classroom?

I imagine a group high school students conducting some sort of in-class resistance to abstinence only curriculum. No, not civil disobedience or walkouts, but instead more of an in your face challenge to the teachers propagating this crap in the classroom. What if the kids persisted in asking unwelcome questions about birth control pills and condoms, and what if the kids recited statistics in class that demonstrate that the abstinence only does not work, and other pointed questions like "Isn't it kind of unrealistic to expect high school and college kids to abstain from all sex?"

Or "How do you reconcile abstinence with the fact that the average age of marriage has been getting higher and higher and is now over 27 years old?"

Or, "isn't it a little naive to expect a 35 year old man who still has not found a spouse to remain abstinent from sex?"

Ask these questions politely but forcefully to your abstinence only educators and make them answer.

And yes, I am familiar with the documentary The Education of Shelby Knox, but I have yet to see the whole thing.

1. Maybe the school could invite Bristol Palin
to speak to the students about abstinence and how good it works. Then she could sell them the book that she has written. :sarcasm:

2. If they resisted it "in the classroom", that would make for some very interesting classes.

3. Or maybe they could stage a sex-in!
You know, start having sex right in the classroom, while the abstinence-only lecture is going on.

4. I do not see the problem
high school kids don't get horny and they always consider all the consequences of their actions .........

5. Good idea. Can't imagine high schoolers sitting through that with a straight face as it is, though.

6. Some days, all of them resist any education in the classroom...
...and some of them resist any education in the classroom every day.

Why would abstinence be received any differently than chemistry or composition?

7. I guess what I am talking about is a more intelligent form of resistance
Not throwing paper airplanes or making fart noises in class.

8. To do otherwise...
...would to cease to be an adolescent.

10. They've been resisting it in and out of the classroom

for as long as the institution of High School has existed, and I suspect will continue to do so for as long as the institution continues to exist.

11. They resist in private. That's why conservative districts often have such high teen-pregnancy rates
