Ex-CIA Agent Arrested for Disclosing Secrets
Jeffrey Sterling Faces Charges for Allegedly Leaking Classified Information to NYT Reporter James Risen in Early 2000s
January 6, 2011

A former CIA officer is under indictment, accused of leaking classified information about Iran to a New York Times reporter.

Sterling, of O'Fallon, Mo., was arrested Thursday and appeared in federal court in St. Louis later in the day. U.S. Magistrate Judge Terry I. Adelman told him he would be detained through the weekend because the government had declared him a danger to the community.

The Justice Department does not say specifically what was leaked but, from the dates and other details, it is clear that case centers on leaks to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist James Risen for his 2006 book, "State of War: The Secret History of the CIA and the Bush Administration" The book revealed details about the CIA's covert spy war with Iran.

The Justice Department had twice subpoenaed Risen to force him to reveal his sources, but he refused.

Sterling faces decades in prison if convicted.

So exactly how did James Risen's book allegedly endanger me and the entire nation? Sounds to me like the book embarrassed the Bush government more than anything else and for that "crime" the Obama administration is prepared to send Mr. Sterling to prison for decades! BBI

3. Seems like a prelude to prosecuting Julian Assange
Can't you imagine, behind closed doors:
"See, if we can make THIS STICK, we've got Assange by the sac."

Bastards.

4. Focking BushInc is STILL in charge of the international scene, just like in the 90s.
Exactly what I did NOT vote for in the 2008 primaries.

5. Punishing unsanctioned press "leaks," but not sanctioned ones = intent to deceive the public.

6. But I thought we were looking forward?
What is the DOJ doing looking back at crimes that were committed during the Bush administration?

I'm confused.
