Bachmann wins Iowa straw poll, keeps momentum

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., won the Iowa Straw poll on Saturday, turning aside a surge by Rep. Ron Paul of Texas and maintaining the momenum with her rising campaign.

Bachmann captured 4,823 votes out of the total 16,892, while Paul captured 4,671. Former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty finished third 2,293 votes.

"From one Iowan to another, I will be the pace car, if you will, to set the tone and set the pace for bringing this country back to greatness," she said during her address at the Hilton Coliseum Saturday afternoon.

The win is a big boost for the nascent Bachmann campaign that needed to show it could turn the enthusiasm Bachmann has generated on the stump into votes.

Amazing that Romney was completely blanked in Iowa.

1. The Ames Straw Poll is a race to see who loses the nomination.
Mittens did well, in that respect.

2. I read that Romney
pissed away a cool 1 mil last time around and decide to sit this fiasco out.

3. I wonder if michele has plans after she does not get
nominated by the gops
For she is done in Minnesota. Does not spend any time in her district
does not spend time in DC. Calls herself an Iowan.
I wonder if she actually believes she has what it takes
to be president??

She only beat Paul by 1-2 percentage points
Perry is the one she needs to worry about

4. Doesn't winning the straw poll make her, statistically, a 1% chance?
It's like being promoted to security guard in "Star Trek", right?
