Norway Spreading: Luxembourg Under Bomb Alert Lock Down
Norway Spreading: Luxembourg Under Bomb Alert Lock Down

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/03/2011 10:52 -0400

Norway's tragic episode from two weeks ago may be starting to spread. Next target: the heart of the Eurozone: Luxembourg. From Wort.lu: "There was great commotion in Luxembourg City between Place Guillaume II and the Grand Ducal Palace just before 3pm on Wednesday with police arriving en-mass. According to information obtained by wort.lu from the police, at 2:40pm bomb threats located at points were announced by an unknown caller on “Place Guillaume II with explosives hidden near the bank, at the post office building, at the main station and in the underground Aldringen Centre”. The bomb threats sparked a major police operation. Wort.lu reporters and several readers at the scene state that many armed police in protective clothing are performing searches. A canine unit with dogs specialised in bomb detection were also at the scene. The traffic in the City which is particularly dense around the Place Guillaume II, has come almost to a complete standstill and many streets blocked. At the time of writing this update (4:30pm) the station area is still blocked off. If you are travelling through the City expect disruption for the next few hours." We will bring more as we see it.

Unknown caller threatens several bombs in the captial

Luxembourg City bomb alert
Thursday, 4 August 2011

There was great commotion in Luxembourg City between Place Guillaume II and the Grand Ducal Palace just before 3pm on Wednesday with police arriving en-mass

According to information obtained by wort.lu from the police, at 2:40pm bomb threats located atvarious points were announced by an unknown caller on “Place Guillaume II with explosives hidden near the bank, at the post office building, at the main station and in the underground Aldringen Centre”.

The bomb threats sparked a major police operation. Wort.lu reporters and several readers at the scene state that many armed police in protective clothing were performing searches. A canine unit with dogs specialised in bomb detection was also at the scene.

The traffic in the City which is particularly dense around the Place Guillaume II, almost came to a complete standstill and many streets blocked, although this area now seems to be open to traffic again. At the time of writing this update (4:30pm) the station area is still blocked off. If you are travelling through the City expect disruption for at least the next few hours.

2. That's lousy, sensationalistic journalism.
"Norway's tragic episode from two weeks ago may be starting to spread."

First, what connection does it have to Norway? Second 'may be starting to spread' indicates FUTURE incidents, of which the journalist can only speculate. And with a moniker like "Tyler Durden" perhaps hope for.

3. Is the news story in the Luxembourg press lousy too?
You did read that didn't you? That is not sensationalist journalism, is it?

Nothing to say about the underlying story, eh? Just snark and smear things you don't know, huh?

You have never heard of ZeroHedge?

So, what, you should get out more. Like your head out of your MSM A**

Why does the nom de pleur of Tyler Durden set you off so?

I understand you now.

Please, in the future, if you don't understand something, or if you read something from someone you are not familiar with, stay off my threads.

Have a nice day.

5. It's just a report of bomb *alerts*
Edited on Thu Aug-04-11 11:14 AM by muriel_volestrangler
With no actual reports of real bombs; nor any indication of what the motive for the alerts is. So, yes, it is sensationalistic to say "Norway is spreading"; though it's not actually 'journalism' at all, just blogging.

Remember, Tyler Durden on zerohedge is just a blogger, not a journalist. He just notices what other sites report on.

You shouldn't start threads if you don't want comments on them. Don't tell people to 'stay off my threads'; if you're that sensitive to criticism, then start a blog that doesn't allow any comments, and pontificate to your heart's content.

And now, with your later update, we see (a) the alerts were hoaxes and (b) thye were made by a self-proclaimed 'al Qaeda sympathiser'. So I think the skepticism show about the zerohedge post was fully justified, don't you?

6. No, actually the point of Durden's alert was
that this mentality and atmosphere is now loose in Europe.

Thanks to the Norway bomber we will no doubt see more.

Of these hoax examples and less desirable, the real thing.

Are you denying that there actually was a phone threat at one point? That does constitute an emergency until it is debunked, no?

When Durden penned his opinion, which has been very spot on over these intervening years, when this was still a threat and the evacs took place.

I am not skeptical about Tyler Durden's efforts in this regard.

Are you a mod now or what?

Others do all kinds of things with their threads and posts.

You know what to do.

Just my dos centavos

7. Are you under the impression that 'Durden' thinks that bomb alerts are a new thing in Europe?
I give him more credit than that. No, 'Norway' (I think we can take it as read he means the Breivik attack) involved an actual bomb, with no warning, and a gun massacre, by a right winger. By titling this 'Norway spreading', he was implying this had similarities to Breivik; but it turns out it didn't.

No, I'm not a mod at the moment, but if you're saying I should alert on you for the 'MSM A**' and 'stay off my thread' rule breaks, I can't be arsed. You may learn better by me explicitly pointing out what you've done wrong, anyway.

10. I read it and it's sensationalism.
There is no "trend" that suggests "Norway is spreading". The author is making a BIG leap and projecting into the future based on his own imagination and perhaps wishful thinking.

I am not 'set off' by the guy's pen name, however his choice of pen name coupled with his seeming glee at the (projected) spread of violence goes together quite well.

4. Luxembourg bomb threats from "Al Qaeda sympathiser"
Police receive 2 phone call threats

Luxembourg bomb threats from "Al Qaeda sympathiser"

Luxembourg held its breath for just over 2 hours

(ADW) Police vehicles, heavily armed police officers, bomb disposal experts and sniffer dogs descended on Luxembourg City on Wednesday afternoon. For over two hours the capital was in a state of emergency with blocked roads in several areas. The focus at first was around the Place Guillaume II, but soon the search became wider moving towards the Gare area of the City.

The scare was caused by a bomb threat. At about 2:40pm, police reported they received a phone call from a man stating he had placed an explosive device near the Knuedler (Place Guillaume II), triggering the initial panic.

However the man phoned back later in the day stating he had placed explosive devices in other locations around the capital. The police described the man as “confused” but apparently proclaiming he was an Al-Qaeda sympathiser.

Shortly after receiving the initial call, the police sounded a general alarm. As several wort.lu readers reported within a short time, many police officers swooped down on Place Guillaume II, blocking it off completely to traffic and rerouting buses...
