9. Yes, I'm acquainted with that tradition. It's not unusual for people who attend

the signing to receive souvenir pens. It's just amusing to go through the process of creating "pens for posterity" when no one was there for the signing. I'm wondering if these particular pens will make their reserve bid on eBay.

i imagine it's because he didn't want any republicans in this pic lest he be seen as doing their bidding.
and he then can't have any democrats at the ceremony lest it be painted as a partisan (!) act.

so this way, it's obama's bill, not the tea party's bill, not the republican party's bill, and not the democrats' bill.

it's just obama's bill.

if it works out well (well, if the economy improves for what would have to be completely unrelated reasons) then obama can show this pic and take full credit.

in all likelihood, the usual suspects are in the room, just not in this pic. again, someone thinks they're managing obama's image.
