Ok it is time we ask this question...
Marc Aimbinder asked the POTUS point blank in december about this....

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=1638846&mesg_id=1639238

One of many internal links.

So... was he that naive not to see it coming... or did he want it?

Either answer does not give me a warm fuzzy either.

But at this point we need to ask this question even if we might not like where this is leading to.

is a badge of honor.

12. Obama did not want this crisis - the Teabaggers did - it was theirs all along
Rand Paul et al. - that is how the historians will read it.

and the non-naive

13. Re read the interview
yup

That interview is one of those VERY VALUABLE PRIMARY sources since it reveals something and goes into the first draft of history.

18. Conyers says the SS cuts were Obama's idea. Boehner says he got 98% of what he wanted. When
will you understand this is a bad bill?

3. Honestly, I don't care which one it is....
Either he's a naive idiot, or he was complicit in this whole charade.

Whichever one it is, makes him a horrible, shitty leader. Both of his party and the country.

5. he has to have learned something
from this whole debacle by now. He cannot be naive anymore - it's impossible. So when November comes and if this super committee recommends a bunch of b.s. cuts (which I think they will if there are blue dogs on the panel), he needs to stand up strongly against it or else we know that the answer is the second part of that question.

9. There should not be blue dogs on the panel...
As far as I'm concerned if there are blue dogs on the panel then there is no hope and that will be the final straw for me.

Everyone, EVERYONE...Obama, Reid, Pelosi.....every single Democrat in Senate and the House knows the score now and knows just how far the Republicans are will to take us and how close to the edge. They know that the Republican picks will be far right extremists who will fight tooth and nail for no revenue increases. There are no excuses. None.

If Democrats do not put the most liberal members they can find on this panel, especially knowing how the Republicans will stack it then I am done. Completely done. There is absolutely no point waiting to see how it is going to turn out because we'll know.

If they stack it with centrists and blue dogs, flat out anyone who can look at that and think that the Democrats are not in collusion on all of this is an idiot. Plain and simple.

15. Moderates from BOTH sides will be on the panel
No way Republicans agree to have liberals but no conservatives on the panel.

16. Huh?
Really? Do you really think that the Republicans are going to pick moderates (if any of those even exist) for their representatives on the panel? Do you think they'll pick anyone who has ever, in any circumstances expressed even slight support for raising taxes?

No. They are going to pick people from their hard right flank.

21. Yes they will and yes they do exist
And Dems will make sure they, not the far-right, are on the panel.
The majority of the people are moderates. Moderates will be on the panel and we will get a moderate plan.

19. The question is mostly academic
and one that historians will have open debates on. The results are the same though.

20. That clip has haunted me all day.
Especially troubling was President Obama's nervous reaction to the question.
That kid (Aimbinder? Harry Potter?) FUCKING NAILED IT last DECEMBER!!!

Here is the clip from the Daily Show.
The kid's question starts at 4:28 in the clip:
