“The people trying to kill this agency are Republicans,” she concluded. “They like the old system, with 7 different agencies for consumer protection, nobody responsible and accountable to the American people. I’m saving all the rocks in my pocket for Republicans.”

Warren thinks that having a nominee frees up a bigger discussion, “or if need be, fight,” about the role of consumer protection relative to a status quo that failed the public and helped lead to the financial crisis. “We had a fight a year ago over having this agency, Republicans lost that fight, and they want to fight it again. They want to embrace the system that failed,” she said. Warren would welcome a recess appointment, but insisted that, even with a director in place, there would still be the need to block any weakening amendments and other attacks on the agency as it gets up and running.

CFPB was given a clean bill of health by a joint Inspector General report from Treasury and the Federal Reserve recently. The report said that the agency has been competently built and run.

As for the big question in everyone’s mind, over whether Warren will now move to run for Senate in Massachusetts against Scott Brown, Warren was tight-lipped. “My future plans are taking my grandchildren to Legoland, and nothing further than that. I gotta get home to Massachusetts.”

5. "This week is the culmination of two years of hard battles."
The President put the consumer agency in his first outline of financial regulatory reform, and he never wavered in his support for it. The agency was declared dead several times, and weak versions and lousy bargains were offered again and again, but he stood fast. When he signed Dodd-Frank into law, creating the new agency, he offered me the chance to stand it up -- something for which I will always be grateful. The fights continued, and again, the President never wavered in his support. In fact, just last week he issued a veto threat if the Republicans try to move the agency's funding to the political process, and I know that in the future he won't allow opponents of reform to succeed in weakening the CFPB.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/elizabeth-warren/richard-cordray-cfpb-consumer-financial-_b_901370.html
