On Empire, and what is going on in the media
history tends to happen in strange ways. Well they are cycles, but that is another story. What is happening to Murdoch, quite possibly will put a kibosh on the strength of the Echo Machine. The right is sounding desperate on this, and they have also lost control of the messaging.

The American people have a feeling that something is really wrong. What they are feeling is that the Empire is on it's decline phase. This default talk, even if it does not happen, will accelerate pressures in the world economy. There were talks of the USD no longer being the reserve currency already. Expect those to increase, and that will be one of the many signals that we are declining.

The recent, as in the last 72 hours, switch on trickle down (on MSNBC) signals a change in the environment, I suspect. People are starting to wake up from the last thirty years of propaganda. Brewer this morning saying, BUT WE HAVE HAD TEN YEARS OF LOWER TAXES AND SEE HOW BAD THE ECONOMY IS DOING is now part of a trend. Expect more of that, but I suspect people are starting to realize... party is over.

1. If lower taxes on the rich lead to job creation, why don't we have more jobs?
There is something called the law of diminishing returns. Perhaps taxing the truly rich at 91% as was done during the Eisenhower administration was a bit draconian but some estimates I hear today place the tax rate of the rich at 17%. Also many corporations, such as GE, pay NO taxes.

One result of all these tax decreases that have occurred over the last several decades is that the rich are definitely richer and the middle class is an endangered species.

I often expect that much of the money the rich saved through the lower taxes was used to buy and control the people we elect to represent us.

Still it is true that you could tax the hell out of the truly rich and we still would not solve our debt problems. There is a LOT of inefficiency and waste in our Federal government.

But still a marginal increase in tax rates for the wealthy and curtailing the run away tax breaks that the wealthy and the big corporations get should help our nation address our financial problems without devastating or getting rid of programs such as Social Security or Medicare.

In the background as I post this the news is televising John Boehner saying, "There can be no tax hikes because tax hikes kill jobs."

If that was actually true we should just stop taxing the rich altogether. Then we would have more jobs than we do workers. :sarcasm:

2. Nadin!! YOU were the one, if I recall correctly, that posted about
"the peaking of america" in direct relation to a class war that is eminent. When I was listening to the stories about Murdoch (and something else, can't think of it right now) your post instantly popped into my mind and I COULD SEE IT HAPPENING!!! Again, I don't think I'll live to see it but I sure hope it happens sooner rather than later!!
