Pat Robertson warns God will destroy America over same sex marriage

Television evangelist Pat Robertson responded to New York’s decision to legalize same sex marriage by warning Monday that the result would be America’s destruction.

“I think we need to remember the term sodomy came from a town known as Sodom and Sodom was destroyed by God Almighty and the thing that they practiced was homosexual activity and even they tried to rape angels who came down there, so that’s the kind of people they were,” Robertson said. God “sent an angel down there and He said to Lot and his family, ‘get out now because I’m gonna destroy this whole area.’”

“We’re heading that way as a nation. In history there’s never been a civilization ever in history that has embraced homosexuality and turned away from traditional fidelity, traditional marriage, traditional child-rearing, and has survived. There isn’t one single civilization that has survived that openly embraced homosexuality. So you say, ‘what’s going to happen to America?” Well if history is any guide, the same thing’s going to happen to us,’” he predicted.

Robertson also admitted that Jesus “didn’t say anything about the homosexuality.”

I think the most powerful thing this idiot said was that last sentence there.

Jesus came to the earth to forgive us of our sins. If for some reason Homosexuality was not part of that forgiveness don't you think Jesus would have said something like "Homosexuality is a Sin and not part of the deal"?

Nuff said.

it didn't even make the Top 10 (Commandments).

8. Jesus was a liberal hippie Jew and Robertson wouldn't even recognize Jesus
if he were return to earth.

Because Jesus probably wouldn't waste time with people like Pat Robertson but instead reach out to those people who truly could use a helping hand.

Jesus was cool like that back during his first time on earth.

3. It's interesting that the teachers and preachers have interpreted that legend as they have.
Lot gave two men travelling together sanctuary in his home. The townspeople wanted to do violence to know them. I suggest that the townspeople didn't like two men travelling together and wanted to do harm to them. I think the world hasn't changed as much as Pat Robertson would like to believe.

to the townspeople? That doesn't seem all that 'fatherly' to me.

Genesis 19:8 (King James Version)

"Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof."

30. "In history there’s never been a civilization ever in history"
Looks like whatever Caribou Barbie's got is spreading. :eyes:

Besides, there's never been any civilzation that has survived over the long term. The closest so far is probably the Chinese, who -- surprise! -- have historically taken a laid-back attitude toward homosexuality. There's even a gay character in what is believed to be the first novel ever written, Dream of the Red Chamber.

31. The Bible is full of "true stories" that were warped to fit an agenda
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodom_and_Gomorrah

There were six kingdoms on the Jordan Plain--Sodom and Gomorrah were the biggest, and then there were the towns of Admah, Zeboim, Zoar and Bela. The whole Jordan plain belonged to the kingdom of Elam. After thirteen years of putting up with Elam's shit, the kings of all except Zoar conducted a rebellion to run the Zoarian army out of the Jordan Plain. They were eventually successful.

This is when the Biblical S&G story comes out. We all know the official church teaching is that God sent three angels down to warn Abraham to get the hell out of Sodom because Sodom is full of wicked people. After the townspeople find out they're there, they all go over there and demand the three men be sent outside to be gang-raped.

This is what I'm thinking: King Chedorlaomer, leader of Elam, is pissed about losing the Jordan Plain. Most people would be. So, he decides to send his army back to the Jordan Plain to destroy it. Whether you call it "Sherman's March to the Sea" or "the old number six" is immaterial; King C wanted the cities on the Jordan Plain and everyone living there off the planet.

These three men caught wind of it, went to Abraham's house and told him to get everyone out of town. The townspeople decided to go over to Abraham's house and kill the three men because they're Elamites and the townspeople didn't want them around. One thing led to another and next thing you know, the Elamite Army has destroyed the Jordan Plain with fire and brimstone. (In other words, the War of 1812 moved to the banks of the Jordan, or Sherman's March to the Sea...or the ol' number six.)

Then a succession of homophobic Bible translators turned this story into "God wiped the Jordan Plain clean because it was full of gay people." Which leads to the logical question: if Sodom and Gomorrah were towns populated exclusively by gays, how did they make it past the first generation?

No, Pat Robertson needs to look up what the Bible says about pharisees and false Christs.

38. For the Bible Tells Me So...
For the Bible Tells Me So (2007)

In this Sundance documentary, director Daniel Karslake goes to the Bible to examine the ways in which conservative Christian groups have used -- and sometimes exploited -- holy Scripture to deny human rights to gays and lesbians around the world. Highlights include interviews with V. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop in the Anglican Communion, and Chrissy Gephardt, the lesbian daughter of former U.S. Rep. Dick Gephardt.

Just watched this last night and there is a section that talks about "literalists" and that's what Fundies are, literalists (when it suits). From wiki:

Biblical literalism (also called Biblicism or Biblical fundamentalism) is the interpretation or translation of the explicit and primary sense of words in the Bible.<1><2> A literal, Biblical interpretation is associated with the fundamentalist and evangelical hermeneutical approach to Scripture, and is used almost exclusively by conservative Christians.<3> The essence of this approach focuses upon the author's intent as the primary meaning of the text.

The reason I bring this up is that many Biblical scholars feel literalists get the Sodom story wrong. That the real sin was not being hospitable. The reason homosexuality comes into this is because that was how warring men used to denigrate the losers, by raping them anally. So really, it isn't about homosexuality at all (if you are to believe the scholars).

The lower Esplanade Neighborhood (Faubourg Marigny), which is the Gayest part of New Orleans,

and
The French Quarter/Bourbon Street.

Ok, Ok...there was also a small strip along St Charles & the Mississippi that avoided the flood,

54. Pat is a scam artist.
Here's a link showing "Rev." Robertson flashing the "Hail Satan" sign with one hand while praying, and it also claims Robertson is a 33rd degree Mason: http://www.conspiracyplanet.com/chan...contentid=2995 The CBN Network got started in 1966, same year "Rosemary's Baby" came out. Turn the 9 upside down and you get 666.

Then we know that "Rev." Robertson is a very rich man. Worth at least $140 million, according to some estimates. See http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/7027/business.html
He lives in a mansion on the top of a mountain in Virginia with it's own private airstrip. He own the "Ice Capades." So how did "Rev." Robertson get so rich when he has been a "minister of the gospel" most of his adult life?

One reason is he built up his network with contributions from Christians and then recently sold that network for tens of millions of dollars, which he put in his own pocket. And did he sell the network to a Christian? No, but to none other than Australian Jewish neocon billionaire Rupert Murdoch, the same "Married...With Children" and "The Simpsons" Rupert Murdoch. So now Robertson's network only has a couple hours a day of "Christian" programming, mostly his own mostly Republican politics show, and an hour a day of "Sabrina The Teenage Witch."
