ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. -- An Elizabethtown cardiologist and his ex-wife face a three-count federal indictment accusing them of bringing a Bolivian woman into the U.S. to be their maid.

Dr. Javier Arce and his ex-wife, Cristina Arce, were arraigned in federal court Thursday and are free on bond.

According to the indictment, the couple brought the woman from Bolivia to their home on Freeman Lake Road in Elizabethtown in 1994.

The indictment also said the Arces promised the woman a monthly salary, but paid her only about $20,000 over 12 years of service.

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) - A prominent Central Kentucky doctor and his ex-wife are facing federal charges of having an illegal immigrant as a maid and holding her against her will.

It was inside a house in the 700 block of Lake Freeman Road that Javier Arce and his former wife Christina Arce are accused of holding an illegal Bolivian woman and making her work as their maid from 1994 to 2006.

"I was shocked," said Mary Ann Hines who lives across the street from the home, "because that's a serious charge. I just was really surprised and shocked that that happened."

According to a federal grand jury indictment, the couple promised her a monthly salary. However, the woman said she was only paid $20,000 total during her 12 years of labor. Prosecutors say she was told the rest of her money was going into a bank account that never existed.

1. I hope that maid scrubs out their bank account REAL good!
They shouldn't need the money, anyway, once they're in jail for slavery.

10. Rich people are so nice. I'm glad they have all the money. Ordinary people
would just spend it on taxes and beer.

Ten to one the good doctor is an upstanding member of his church, too.

11. Ordinary people would spend it if they had
Edited on Sun Jun-26-11 06:44 PM by Riftaxe
it like the rich, to believe otherwise is folly and indicates an ignorance that is immense.

Unless you have proof of some genetic difference that proves wealth is an indicator that the wealthy are only 3/5's of a human being? Thought not.

Is this specific an example of commonality among the wealthy, probably no more then using meth is among those in poverty.

13. Anything for the good life
because the doctor and his ex-wife were oh so special.

Human beings often disgust me. How can anyone do this to another human being?
