Places to go .....
The old man
must have stopped our car
two dozen times to climb out
and gather into his hands
the small toads blinded
by our lights and leaping,
live drops of rain.

The rain was falling
a midst about his white hair
and I kept saying
you can't save them all,
accept it, get back in
we've got places to go.

But,leathery hands full
of wet brown life,
knee deep in the summer
roadside grass,
he just smiled and said
“they have places to go,
too.”
Joseph Bruchac; Entering Onondaga.

I just got off the telephone. A friend called and asked me to speak to an anti-fracking rally, and then do a presentation at a Town Board meeting this evening. Sometimes, I wish that I had more than three hours notice for these things!

I'm old and tired. Earlier this spring, in a series of falls related to an old injury, I broke three bones, chipped two others, did damage to four muscles, and some damage to one of my internal organs. This “getting old” business ain't easy!

It's a cool, damp, and rainy day in the northeast. Every inch of my body seems to ache. I had planned to read a book my wife bought for me last night, “Autobiography of Mark Twain” (edited by Harriet Elinor Smith; University of California Press; 2010). But I have places to go this evening, and the book will be here when I get home.

The devastation that human beings are doing to the environment has done a great deal of harm to, among many other living things, toads and frogs, both of which have fascinated me for as long as I can remember.

Time to get busy preparing what I'll say tonight.

Wish me luck!

H2O Man

7. I'm a practicing member of the Box Turtle religion myself.
Whenever I see a turtle in the road (particularly a busy one), I have to stop and move them to the side they were walking toward.

Since we all live on Turtle Island, it is the least I can do.

Please speak strongly against the Mother-frackers who have lost all perspective about what it really takes to live on this island.

May cedar and sage go with you.

13. Am sure you will knock their socks off
and give them a lot to think about.

As for your injuries, have you tried Arnica on your muscle aches? Have also had some luck with turmeric powder for joint pain.

Better health to you!
