Don't Be Distracted by Weinergate: The Scandalous "Judicial Insider Trading" of Justice Clarence Tho

Don't Be Distracted by Weinergate: The Scandalous "Judicial Insider Trading" of Justice Clarence Thomas, Wife "Ginni"

He had inappropriate sexual entanglements with a number of women and lied about it repeatedly to the American people. Yet nobody --- save for cone Colorado law school prof--- seems to be calling for Justice Clarence Thomas' resignation for some reason.

That, even though Thomas, unlike Rep. Anthony Weiner, appears to have actually, and flagrantly, and repeatedly, broken the law.

As we reported in January, Thomas appears to have "knowingly and willfully" filed falsified Financial Disclosure Forms which withheld disclosure of nearly $700,000 his wife received from the rightwing Heritage Foundation for the better part of the last 20 years. Only once it was pointed out publicly this year did Thomas bother to file "self-initiated amendments" to the forms he had signed just above the legal warning in bold and all caps which reads: "NOTE: ANY INDIVIDUAL WHO KNOWINGLY AND WILLFULLY FALSIFIES OR FAILS TO FILE THIS REPORT MAY BE SUBJECT TO CIVIL AND CRIMINAL SANCTIONS (5 U.S.C. app. § 104)"

1. The Fact the Media doesn't cover THIS yet covers Wiener
should wake people up a bit. Wiener was definitely targeted and that is why he needs to stay. Once you set stuff like this as precedent, you risk being controlled or blackmailed politically. Oh, and if you as a politician think they won't target you, you are delusional or dumb.

5. Both of the Thomases should be behind bars
for tax evasion and judicial influence peddling. That is all.

7. EVERY time Weiner's name is mentioned, the response should reference Thomas'
CLEARLY criminal behavior, with the abovementioned statutory language included

what they did was clearly intentional, thus warranting at the very least investigation, followed by indictment, conviction, then impeachment

12. it's one of the tactics they teach repugs who plan on being on TV a lot.
pretty simple and obvious deflection, repeated over and over, abetted by complaisant interviewers/moderators, who almost never insist upon answers to initial question, but allow endless filibustering of RW talking points

8. It's an important point for sure!
While it is true that Anthony Weiner has no one to blame but himself for his predicament, it is also true that the Clarence and Ginny Thomas story needs to be told again and again, until Thomas is impeached and/or prosecuted.

We should make it a point to always discuss the Thomas case in every thread where Weinergate is discussed, and on any discussion board or news site that we frequent. Don't even bother saying "We shouldn't be discussing Weiner, we should be discussing Thomas". Rather, just make whatever aside about the Anthony Weiner situation, and then say something like "It's too bad, because he was starting to bring out a very important case, namely that a Supreme Court Justice lied on his financial forms for years, stating that his wife Ginny had no income when in fact her income over that period totalled $680,000. Also, it appears he may have told her what the Citizens United ruling was going to be before it happened, enabling her to found Liberty Consulting and profit from it. It seems to me we ought to look at impeachment for obvious conflicts of interest, failure to recuse himself from cases where he had an interest, lying on a Federal form, and self-enrichment from insider information."

Just give a nice brief synopsis of the Thomas case whenever the Weiner case comes up. It will help to spread the information. No need to even argue much, it's more important IMO to get the basic facts out there. So let's piggy back on the "popular" story by using its popularity to spread the Thomas story. A little political jujitsu if you will.

15. That's what happens when the press has pictures to go with a story...
and even moreso when they have a steady stream of new pictures.

Pictures of a form that's been falsified just isn't as riveting... since it requires reading to recognize the drama of it, and Americans don't read.
