Wanda Sykes on Tracy Morgan: “I blame Tennessee.”
Wanda Sykes on Tracy Morgan: “I blame Tennessee.”

http://www.wwtdd.com/2011/06/wanda-sykes-on-tracy-morgan-i-blame-tennessee/

Tracy Morgan is of course in huge trouble for things he said about gay people during a concert in Nashville earlier this month, specifically on the possibility of his son being gay, that, “he better talk to me like a man and not in a gay voice or I’ll pull out a knife and stab that little nigger to death.”

Well this weekend Wanda Sykes went on her twitter and blamed the state of Tennessee, saying that Tracy wouldn’t have said those things in Los Angeles.

- “I fault the TN lawmakers. They’ve created an anti-gay environment.”
- “Don’t believe Tracy would be so ignorant in LA, because we have a mayor, a city council, and police chief who believes we are all equal.”

1. Seriously?...
He said those things because he feels that way

Just because he knows he would be run off in L.A. for saying those things doesn't mean he doesn't believe them

besides Tennessee did not stand for it either

It's his attitude towards Tennessee that made him think he could get away with it there

But, he didn't

8. Perhaps Carnegie Hall has been relocated to Tennessee.
Or not. Good point. It is disappointing to see Wanda, of all people, making excuses for this rotten, disgusting person.

4. The TN governor and legislature epitomize every thing evil, imo, with the entire RW
mantra of hate being pushed through state legislatures. :patriot:

9. "Wanda Sykes, an openly lesbian comic, condemned Morgan but came down harder on anti-gay politics."
Her point is that places like TN foster this kind of atmosphere where bigots feel comfortable.

10. I think she was specifically referring to the "don't say gay" bill in TN
But I could be wrong. Still, as was pointed out upthread, he did the same thing at Carnegie Hall.

11. Way to misconstrue what she was saying.
Edited on Mon Jun-13-11 01:24 PM by NYC Liberal
She's saying that he felt freer to spew his homophobic crap in Tennessee than in LA.

She ALSO said these things:

I do believe in free speech, but for a youth in TN or any other numerous place, Tracy just yelled, "Fire," in a crowded theater.

Ok, piss'd reading, "I don't want 2 live n a world where Tracy can't say…" I Do! U Keep the world, just break me off an evolved country.

Tracy has the right to say whatever he wants to say, just like we have the right to say, not acceptable.

12. Wanda usually is not so foolish
Hearing her pull punches and make excuses is not what I am used to. She's full of bullshit.

19. She condemned his remarks and chastised TN anti-gay politicians.
Not sure why that's bullshit.

13. I'll bet there's loads of people in Tennessee who would never have
said the stuff he said. It's not really a "When in Rome" situation, much as she would like it to be.

I saw Wanda Sykes and Bill Maher on that same stage and they didn't say anything repulsive like that.

18. As a Tennessean, I agree with Wanda Sykes. But don't blame Tennesseans, ...
Edited on Mon Jun-13-11 03:07 PM by Fly by night
... blame TN Republicans who are openly and brazenly stealing our elections here, transforming their own party from one that used to nominate moderate and intelligent leaders to one that (s)elects overt racists, pug-ugly jackas, tone-deaf tinkerers with our Constitution and Hooters girls for our legislature -- all of whom are homophobic.

While you're at it, you can also blame the US Department of Justice which sits idly by while Memphis voting machines (s)elected an entirely white Republican slate of county officials last August in one of the blackest and bluest cities in this country.

Come on, AG Holder, get over your reefer madness and spend some time on something (election theft) that actually is important.

Tennesseans are begging ya' ....

20. That's a really stupid thing to say
"Don’t believe Tracy would be so ignorant in LA"

Tracy Morgan's level of ignorance varies according to his geographical coordinates? That must be a very rare condition. I wonder if it is related to his recent kidney transplant in some way.

I've always found Tracy's appearances on Letterman to be very amusing... but kind of uncomfortable. I'm not sure if he was putting on an act, or if he really is that crazy.

As Wanda is a comedian, I'm assuming she must have been joking. If she was serious, then she isn't nearly as smart as I thought she was.

And I'm really disappointed in Tracy. He seemed like such a friendly, playful guy. But he said some truly awful things. Sucks.
