Weiner's days in office are numbered, now it's about the best exit strategy
Edited on Wed Jun-08-11 06:16 PM by RiverStone
Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine said Tuesday that Weiner's attempted cover-up of the scandal makes him unfit for office.

"Lying is unforgivable," said Kaine, now a U.S. Senate candidate in Virginia. "Lying publicly about something like this is unforgivable and he should resign."

full story:

http://www.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS/06/08/weiner.scandal/index.html

There are too many top Dems calling for his resignation, this is now taking away press and momentum from what should be exciting stories for progressive Dems (the Wisconsin recall elections etc.)

Before his lying, Weiner had one of the best punches on The Hill, now he has been marginalized so much, that Weiner and the media frenzy following the story is an unwelcome and now counter-productive use of energy. Staying on board hurts the party.

IMO, his resignation is inevitable. If Weiner refuses, how will future winner Tim Kaine ever be able to respect working with him?

And just because scum cowards like David Vitter choose to not resign, is not reason enough for Weiner to be a further drag on far more important issues. After willfully lying to his electorate, he was done. It's not the sexting, it's the lying.

9. Seriously, though, his transgressions were petty compared to those of the GOP asswipes.
Vitter in particular - talk about GOP double-standards.

14. Weiner has chosen to make himself a liar and a joke. His credibility is shot.
He pissed away a potentially great political career, and for what?

24. You mean Weiner WANTED this scandal?
Or do you mean "Weiner chose to RISK becoming a liar and a joke."

10. Bullshit! Weiner brought this on himself!
Edited on Wed Jun-08-11 06:27 PM by RiverStone
There would be not one person calling for him to resign if he was not such a dumbfuck! I care not about his sexual impulses, it was repeatedly lying about it that many folks can't get past.

I thought Bill Clinton was a fantastic president (and still do). Yet his lying about Monica probably cost Al Gore the presidency, and the ripple effect put a criminal regime in office! There is a ripple effect that keeping him in office could produce, that would bring on other consequences.

I refuse to lower the bar to accept bold face lying as OK! The sex part --- I don;t care if he goes to nightly orgies - it's not the sex, its the lying.

20. No he didn't...Bob Menendez did
DNC Chair does not make decisions about House and Senate candidates. They raise funds, focus on State Party organization, and make board policy statements on behalf of the Party.

6. Vitter and Ensign weathered their storms and continued to
deliver their votes for their Party, and we need Weiner to do the same. (Well, Ensign carried on until it became clear he was about to be raked over the coals, but still got a lot of votes in.)

Kaine should knock it off. Does he want to be a Moral Spokesperson or keep the House full of as many strong Dems as he can?

11. So 2 wrongs make it right?
Weiner on his worst day is better than that piece of shit Vitter - he should raise the bar higher than David ever did and have enough guts to do the right thing and resign. I would respect him for that! He could even make a political come back down the road.

15. His wife is preggers
This sucks for her, making her own possible 'exit strategy" that more complex.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/08/anthony-weiner-wife-pregnant_n_873429.html

He has her in the perfect bind. I still hope she ditches him because he will do this again and again and again leading to even more humiliation on her part.

I had hoped because this was a young marriage, she would cut her losses and escape. Now, that is problematic.

I love his politics and hate him.

17. Well, if 'lying publically is unforgivable' I'm sure that Kaine
doesn't speak to Bill Clinton, nor would/will accept any help from him during his campaign. Lying and trying to cover up an actual physical act by Bill should have Kaine shunning him, correct?

I'll try to keep up with Kaine's actions with Bill.

23. Every since the religious right took over the GOP we had this crap
starting with Hart. Never mind that in the 70's a number of Republicans were caught playing grab ass with 17 year old page girls. Nor did it get very much news coverage, I caught it on nightly news at the time and it only ran that night. Oh its all about the lies, BS, I'm more worried about keeping the GOP from privatizing Social Security then this nonsense.

There are far more important things than Wiener's wiener.
