He didn't give Robert Borosage an opportunity to fully explain the problem with Medicare which is that the health care system will bankrupt EVERYTHING.
Instead he wants to make his point about raising taxes on the rich.
Finally someone tries to tackle the truth and Cenk decides to talk over him. I could not be more frustrated.
The exploding costs of Medicare are simply the result of exploding health care costs. It's something the private system won't be able to cope with either.
8. It used to piss me off when I heard pundits state that health care was 16% of the US economy
But never did I hear anyone question the fact that health care expenditures comprised such a ginormous slice of the pie.
That's like one out of every six dollars spent in the US is spent on health care. Basically contributing nothing to trade imbalances or productivity figures.
No economy can be healthy (pardon the pun) carrying that kind of overhead around.
But I'm not going to jump on Cenk - he's one of the good guys.
It's letting the for profit private insurers in the Medicare advantage programs and big PhRMA into the program that are draining it. Turn Medicare D over to the same people who buy drugs for the VA and kick out the insurance companies and Medicare will work just fine. Actually kicking out the for profit insurers and HMOs will make our whole medical system work better and be less costly. That exploding health costs canard is right up there with the other RW think tank BS like Canadians coming here by the busload, people not able to pick their doctors and I could go on and on. Take your RW insurance company talking points to the Ayn Rand instititute. They will welcome your views.
6. I thought Borosage was saying the Medicare wasn't the problem..
but the continuing costs of the broken healthcare system. If you want to fix Medicare, fix the healthcare system. They are focusing on the wrong problem, was my interpretation. True, Cenk could have permitted him to explain it further.
