Even the NY Post acknowledges that hacking of Weiner's Twitter account is payback for
outing former NY Rep. Chris Lee.

Political opponents seized on the incident and compared Weiner to married former upstate GOP Rep. Chris Lee, who quit last year after being caught trolling for dates on Craigslist.

Then, Weiner's backers questioned why conservative blogger Dan Wolfe, who had been hinting about a Weiner scandal for weeks, appeared to be the only person to have noticed the dirty image and retweeted it. Wolfe yesterday told The Post he simply retweeted it from the original posting.

3. How can making something up be payback for exposing something that really happened?
Chris Lee exposed himself - widely - by posting photos of his face and naked torso on the internet accompanied by solicitations for sex from prostitutions. How can reporting that be considered outing?

So in retaliation, the GOP makes up stuff about a Democratic representative?

5. The mindset of the hacker and his/her ilk is to punish "the other side"
when their side takes a hit, particularly if it's humiliating. The "payback" is necessary to "restore" their equilibrium, their "honor". And it's a "warning" not to do it again or we'll get "worse".

6. They don't see the difference
It's a dirty trick that one of their guys got caught with his pants down so it's okay to attempt to make it look like one of ours did the same. Unfortunately for them, they have the Photoshop skills of the nephew of the boss, who brought him in to save the company some money, and they picked the wrong guy to go after - someone who is smarter than they are and just as tenacious if not more so.
