Docs name five worst 'healthy' fast foods
McDonald's oatmeal among top offenders

Posted: 9:55 AM

CINCINNATI - You think you're eating healthy when you order the McDonald's Fruit and Maple Oatmeal, right? Wrong! Turns out it has more sugar than a Snickers bar, and more calories than a hamburger.

A group called the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has released its list of the Five Worst "Healthy" Fast foods.

Besides the McDonalds' oatmeal, the group suggests you also say no to:

Wendy's Baja Salad. It has 1,990 milligrams of sodium, more than most of us should have in a day.

2. The first time I saw a McOatmeal sign, I thought, "If ANYONE can fuck up oatmeal, it's McDonald's".
They did.

16. I wanted to sneak out in the middle of the night and remove the "G" from their "AGNUS BURGER" sign.
My wife put a halt to that - said she wouldn't bail me out of jail if I did it and got caught.

3. If I am going to eat oatmeal I will eat
it at home. Eating oatmeal at a restaurant is just not my idea of a really great breakfast.

4. I remember my wife saying it was neat that McD
was now serving oat meal. I turned to the ingredients and explained to her I will not eat this stuff. I eat 100% oat meal (usually steel cut but rolled as well) with cinnamon, a banana, and almond milk. The cost is a fraction of what I would pay at McDs, and the meal tastes far better.

In fairness to Subway you know to hold the mayo and the cheese. I think they are one of the best places to get prepared meals when you travel. I can't say I recommend all the bread, but go with the salad option with lots of yummy vegetables and low fat chicken breast if you need the protein.

I am not sold on the Smoothie concept even home prepared drinks. You are far better off to eat the fruit in its original form. You will consume less calories. Don't drink your calories unless you have a problem bulking up.

5. What the heck is PhIP?
As for the Wendy's Baja Salad, not surprised to hear the sodium count. Everything they put in it, excluding the lettuce, has added salt. The thing also has more calories than an KFC Double Down.

12. You don't get media coverage if your list is based in reality.
Better to overstate the danger so somebody will print up the story about your group.

13. This doc group kinda has a hidden agenda.
Specifically, they're vegans. And they have a long history of coming up with scary-sounding reasons why anything with meat in it will kill you.

17. Well, that might be because there ISN'T anything healthy at KFC.
If you like fatty chicken skin covering expired layer hen meat, coated in goop and chemicals, and deep fried in more fat - GREAT!

For those of us who like food, that isn't a "restaurant".
