I finally came around to start an ignore list.

This decision did not come lightly. I always found myself rather idealistically buying into the concept of "ignoring manually", partially thinking that pretending moronic statements aren't there will not make them go away.

Today I am more pragmatic, thinking more about my personal health.

I will start by adding people who do posts that contain an implication that the fact that persons or groups exist in the world who violate the international code of law as established after the second world war is a reason for the United States to abandon the concept of international law altogether, rather than a reason why one should have such a code of law.

Second, I will add people who do posts who contain the implication that non-support for acts of war against group X are equal to support for group X.

This is an experiment. I am eager to see whether the result is a nicer looking board.

But remember that an echo chamber only reinforces what you want to hear and limits the chances that you'll learn something new every single time its' used. I can't count the number of times I've been tempted to ignore someone in my time on the internet, only to gain an interesting point of view from them on something completely unrelated a year, two, three down the line. IMO, it's not worth the potential loss of knowledge.

I have never seen a person use the anarchy sign while saying they will ignore those who ignore US and international law.

You've stayed away from it for so long that I think it's going to be tough to "ignore" people now. I think you'll be curious what people are saying. I know of people here that will read DU logged in with ignore and then go to another browser and read the thread not logged in to see what the ignored said. It defeats the purpose.

I suggest a third such precept:

Add people who suggest that support for due process and the rule of law equals support for person x.

My Ignore list turned into a purge of Stalin-esque proportions when I applied those 3 precepts. Certain threads now have the appearance of a chunk of swiss cheese. I happen to like swiss cheese :)

Funny, though, I almost always seem to be able to infer what the Ignores are saying, just from the responses.
