9. yeah, but Bush is probably the least self-aware person on the planet
when he said he sleeps just fine at night & can't think of a single mistake, I believe him

maybe he's just being lazy?

seriously.

8. He announced a month or two ago that he wasn't going to be making public appearances.
Edited on Tue May-03-11 07:33 PM by Ilsa
He knows his legacy is a fucked-up economy, a fucked-up foreign policy, two fucked-up wars, and his own political party fucked three ways to Sunday. He knows, deep down inside, that he is a failure. He knows, deep down inside, that brother JEB would have done a better job (but still fucked up.) And he's afraid to show his face.

On edit: here's a link to his January announcement: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/28/bush-says-hes-done-with-politics/
I think he knew that Pres. Obama was getting closer to getting OBL, even though it would be another 1-2 months before they started final preparations to run this op.

12. you know what, I just think he is completely disconnected & disinterested anymore
he doesn't have the compunction or moral imperative for self reflection.

I think he is just totally "gone" from his former public life - it's too much cognitive dissonance for him.

14. i would argue he doesn' know sh*t about his f/u legacy.. still living in self-delusion of glory
and declined because he would be overshadowed by the success of Obama and his ego couldn't take it..

15. When O'Donnell said it, I suggested to my husband ...
That either he didn't want to play second fiddle or they figured they couldn't wring the booze out of him in just two days.

Yeah, it was a nasty thing to say -- but I swear it was the first thing that occurred to me.
