Do we have any idea who Pelosi will appoint to the Conference Committee?
I think that will make a huge difference in the merger of the two bills. If she appoints a bunch or even a couple Progressives - good things could happen. If she appoints a bunch of Steny Hoyer type DLCer's than it is pretty much over and the bill will greatly look like the Senate version. Who would you appoint and who do you realistically, in terms of Progressives, think has a chance to get a seat at the table?

I would love to see DK or Conyers, but they may be too polarizing.

I would love to see Sestak, Patrick Murphy, Obey, Waxman, Wexler, Slaughter or Moran get a few seats at the table.

This whole dubious affair is polarizing, might as well go with the toughest she's got regardless of any polarization.

4. You are exactly right. What I meant was I am not sure if she would have the guts to appoint them.

7. Maybe that's why he changed his tune. He knew he would have a seat at the table to express his view
Once it passed the Senate. I like AW as well.

11. What was the stupid, idiotic purpose of unreccing this OP?
Unbelievable how childish some people are. This is a good, honest, interesting OP that is NOT controversial.

15. most likely senior members of the committees that produced the bill
Of all of the names you listed, I think Waxman is the most likely choice. Not going to be DK or Conyers.

18. I'd suggest Slaughter and Barbara Lee
Edited on Thu Dec-24-09 08:17 AM by Ken Burch
They could fight to get the good stuff back in the bill without having the undeserved baggage Dennis has.

Besides, in any case, Dennis wouldn't take the conferee job if it WAS offered to him.

19. WSJ suggests
Pelosi and Reid might try to circumvent the traditional conference committee process and basically do it themselves. I can see where they might do this. It would be one way to keep the Senate Bill intact. Otherwise, there will be a food fight.

Also note Conrad's comment: Conrad, chair of the Budget Committee, has already warned that if the final bill "isn't close to the Senate bill, there will be no way to get the 60 votes here" to shut off debate and pass the final product.

Looks like 60 votes will be required.
