Conservative pundit rips Romney, predicts GOP loss
Conservative pundit rips Romney, predicts GOP loss

As the Iowa caucuses near, an influential grass-roots conservative says he believes Mitt Romney’s nomination as the GOP general election candidate is inevitable, and that Romney will ultimately lose to President Obama a year from now.

Erick Erickson, the founder of the RedState blog and a CNN contributor, wrote a lengthy blog post Tuesday that was one part indictment, one part lamentation, as it laid bare, yet again, the deep fissure of mistrust that divides Romney from some conservatives. And at times it read as much as a surrender as a call to arms.

“Mitt Romney is going to be the Republican nominee. And his general election campaign will be an utter disaster for conservatives as he takes the GOP down with him and burns up what it means to be a conservative in the process,” Erickson wrote.

1. don't hold your breath ...
with today's (allegedly) "liberally-biased media", once they settle in on a specific candidate, the "LBM" will spend the next few months polishing that turd to a shine that would put New Shimmer to shame ...

11. YEP ...
Romney is hands down the best general election candidate, because the election turns from being the craziest right wing lugnut possible in the primary to "looking" and "acting" presidential, and Mittens has the looks, and they "liberal media" will so its job of going after BO while constantly positively framing Romney.

There is a reason why the true party power players keep cutting down all the other candidates while not taking shots at Mittens.

4. This is why I hope they get Newt
I want them to lose badly while thinking they have the correct nominee running a "true conservative" campaign. Losing with Romney will make denial too easy for them.

5. Indeed. Can't agree more.
Newt would be a huge collapse of their ideology in one fell swoop.

8. IF IF IF....
Newt actually loses...Everyone acting like Newt is sure loss for the GOP are simply not thinking!

Newt is a Right Wing Christian Authoritarian & Americans are historically suckers for Right Wing Christian Authoritarians like Newt!

Newt's past will play little to no role at all in the GE...Too many think his past will matter to folks but it won't.

9. Newt has an absolute lock
on 40 percent of the vote, with a tailwind perhaps 43 - 44 percent. His problem lies in the middle. He will have lots of diehard support, and lose worse than McCain.

10. I swear I hope you are correct but...
Newt & his Authoritarian ways that so many Americans are suckers for & the money that will be spent in his favor from Right Wing Super PACs that could be as much as a BILLION DOLLARS or more I don't think it will be as easy as you & others make it out to be.

I would be totally on your side if I did not already know how most Americans like Republicans! They DO NOT hold Republicans to the same HIGH standards they do Democrats so the idea that Newt's past will hurt him is nothing but a Liberal PIPE DREAM!

We will see.

7. "Voters may not like ... Obama, but by the time Obama is done with Romney they will not trust Mitt"
"And voters would rather the guy they don’t like than they guy they don’t trust.

I don't agree that voters "don't like" President Obama, but this is a very interesting comment.
