Memo to the DNC: They are not the 'Bush Tax Cuts,' they are the 'Bush Tax Cuts for the Rich.'
The tax cuts for the 1% were designed to stay with the 1%.

The tax cuts for the 99% were designed to end up with the 1%.

'Bush Tax Cuts for the Rich.'

Mark it on your index cards. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat.

2. Except they aren't
Some of the tax cuts are for the wealthy. Some are for the middle class (which also benefit the wealthy).

The DNC wants to keep the middle class ones while dumping the ones aimed exclusively at the wealthy. So your proposed messaging won't work well.

3. The OPs message is correct.
The Congress could easily pass a bill to make only the tax cuts for the middle class permanent. The GOP won't do it.

So, the Dems can say that the GOP should support such a bill. And if not, Obama can let them all expire at the end of next year, and the Dems will again propose reinstating only those for the middle class.

Make the GOP fight against it.

4. Still doesn't make them the "Bush tax cuts for the wealthy" when you're trying to extend the...
...non-wealthy ones.

10. You're describing what happened last year
I don't see why trying that again will lead to a better outcome.

8. Taxes were 'cut' for the middle class, but because of the destruction of the economy by the rich...
...whatever the middle class gained, has gone right into the pockets of the rich just to survive.

I stand by my assertion.

15. Except that Clinton wanted to enact those middle class tax cuts that Bush did
Alan Greenspan blackmailed him by threatening to drastically raise interest rates if he did.

9. The tax cuts for the middle class cost more than the tax cuts for the rich
The tax cuts for the rich are $800 billion, the tax cuts for the middle class are about $2 trillion. That's why if we simply undo all the tax cuts, the budget surplus reappears. If we just undo the tax cuts for people making more than $250K, we still have deficits.
