Perry's Biggest Problem: The Bush Family Hates Him
Pappy Bush, in an unusual move, endorsed Kay Bailey Hutchinson over Rick Perry for governor:

At 9:45 this morning, George H.W. Bush will open up his West Houston home to the press to make what is, for the octogenarian former president, a rare overtly political announcement: In the intra-Republican party fight for Texas governor, 41 has chosen U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison over Gov. Rick Perry. He joins his close friend, longtime consigliere, and former White House chief-of-staff James Baker, who endorsed Hutchison earlier this week, and a long list of his son George W. Bush's closest associates in lining up behind the challenger to the incumbent. Hutchison has the public backing of former Vice President Dick Cheney, former Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings, and former Counselor to the President and communications director Karen Hughes, and she's being advised by former Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove.

Keep in mind that the Bush family still has tremendous clout within the Republican party. In a sense, they are to the Republican party what the Kennedy family once was to the Democratic party. For Pappy Bush to endorse Hutchinson sends a very strong signal that the family is at odds with Perry.

Additionally, the Bush family wants 2016 for Jeb. Do no underestimate the Bushes.

6. He's their boy, for sure.
But I don't believe he, or they, are going to be able to pull it off this time.

Jeebus, we really need to get rid of electronic voting.

2. According to chatter on Stephanie Miller's show today,
Texans don't like him anymore than the Bush family does. Those Texans who liked Bush don't like Perry at all. Makes you wonder why he thinks he can be President.

3. Huntsman did well at the debate, Too conservative for me
but he at least comes across as sane. Of course
being sane might be a fault in the new Republican Party.

7. That may be a good thing for Rick pArry
Bush isn't exactly very popular, even among republicans. The teabaggers turned on him during the time of the bailout.

And elder Bush is way too moderate for the freaks running the show now. Remember, this is the guy that called supply side economics "voodoo economics". I still don't think many in the party have forgiven him for his "no new taxes" pledge which he broke.

10. Hmmm. Seems like this talking point is more likely a political effort to distance
Bush from Perry? ;)

12. So they're conceding 2012 to Obama?
Wow ... there's actually someone who believes that he'll get re-elected ...

He must not be watching much "liberally-biased media" in his doddering old age ...

13. How does this hurt Perry?
He doesn't even have to distance himself from the Bush name. Instead, it's being done FOR him.

17. Seriously...
Nothing could be better for Perry than to have the Bush's hate on him.

As a Texas governor who sounds much like Bush, having the story that the Bushies don't like him in the news is very good for Perry.

14. Perry on video being a complete ***hole
I think that police dashcam video of Perry's car being pulled over for speeding by Texas law enforcement will turn many Repubs against Perry. It's an opposition research dream come true. He was an arrogant jerk pulling that "Do you know who I am?" crap.

19. I remember that. He was instructing the DPS patrolman to "let them get on down the road."
He was too important to be ticketed. Total jerk. It got a lot of press here in Yexas when it happened, but people's memories are short when they think a political person like Perry can get them more attention.

16. Bush isn't very popular among republicans
The family has nowhere near the clout as the Kennedys do among Democrats.

Bush is extremely unpopular among teabaggers especially. This is a good thing for Perry.

20. Perry is too "common" for the Bushs
The Bushs are truly elitists and I'm sure they don't interact with people of Perry's class unless it benefits them politically. Back in '92, they looked down on Bill Clinton as come kind of trailer trash. Anyone seeking higher office who isn't in their class is viewed as a usurper.
