Barbara Bush corrects son over ‘foetus in a jar’ story
Source: The First Post

It wasn’t me, it was the housekeeper, says George Bush’s mother

Barbara Bush has sharply contradicted her son George W Bush’s recent disclosure, described by The First Post’s US columnist Alexander Cockburn, that when he was a teenager she handed him a jar containing the foetus of her miscarried child, and asked him to take it to the hospital.

Former President Bush told Matt Lauer of NBC television, in an interview to plug his memoir Decision Points, that it was the transformative moment that made him pro-life.

But Barbara has undercut her son. She says it was her housekeeper who gave the jar to George.

"I didn't put it in the jar," Barbara Bush said, adding that it wasn't "in the library" on display. "Paula put it in the jar. And I was shocked when she gave it to him to - but, you know, memories dim a little bit..."

Comments Cockburn: "“Here's George's transformative moment, and he can't even remember who the transformer was."

3. i believe Barbara Bush about this , she is pro choice and i can't see her doing
the whole jar thing. it seems more like some creepy anti choice fundie types would do.

Babs can be mean and nasty bu and cold but she isn't creepy fundie .

6. I understand what the other poster was saying: Babs is not a
fundamentalist Christian. She's Episcopalian, and wasn't too happy about Georgie being "born again" from all accounts I'd read.

Still, I don't know if I believe her story about the fetus in a jar. It's damn creepy.

9. George and Barbara lived happily in Connecticut. They were never fundies.

I doubt she gave the fetus in the jar to W. Babs is a nasty person but not about that sort of thing, more about power.
