Damn Obama!!!

Damn Obama!!!

by Eclectablog

I cannot believe this president and his Democratic “leaders”. This week brought it all home for me.

First, I get a statement this week from my credit card company. I could not believe what I saw. Look at these new account fees:

And check this out: The Late Payment fee will not exceed the total minimum payment that was due either.

Un-effing-believable! Damn that Obama! (Shakes fist at Obama)

Then, I’m renewing my health insurance through my employer and I come across this atrocity:

Dependent Eligibility – Adult children (even if married) will be allowed to continue dependent coverage until age 26. An adult child is considered a member’s natural child, stepchild or legally adopted child, or one who meets legal guardianship status, if that child is less than 26 years of age.

Can you believe it??? 26? For my son who is going to be a senior in college next year? He’s got allergies, a pre-existing condition. Sounds to me like they won’t be denying him coverage, goddamit!

11. He's the president...
Not your mommy!! Take some responsibility and cut up your credit cards and vow to never get another one. It's amazing how sensible you become with money when you don't have the plastic to fall back on.

When you borrow money, your lender owns you. Whether it's VISA or your brother-in-law.

We are so quick to blame Obama for not keeping his every word....what about OUR word. We didn't say to him YES YOU CAN. We said YES WE CAN. So when do WE do our part??? We could do a lot if we ALL cut up our credit cards.

12. Okay, is this a trick?
I can't tell whether you're serious or not. And now I'm not sure the OP was serious or not. I figured he wasn't.

I'm so confused...

20. I couldn't figure out if the op was serious either....I think not...
But....I am very serious.

Anything that smells of a complaint I have to jump on because I am SO sick of it! Gees...did everyone think that Obama had a magic wand and would just make their every dream come true...while we just sit back and wait for the goodies to roll in. What part of YES WE CAN was our job. I think, at the very least, to be supportive, patient and understanding of the fact that he had/has a near insurmountable pile of problems to deal with.

and passionate defenders. I thought her meaning was perfectly clear.

6. I suspect this toon is chock full of nonsense...
Since a big ol' chunk of nonsense jumped out the split second my eyes saw this....

Credit card companies never cancel your card... never. They want you broke and in debt to them. They can't do that if they cancel your account.

Rubbish.

16. I know! I do not like to say the word "spoiled" but...
I wonder sometimes if it is we the people are spoiled & think huge problems can get solved over night like they do on all the garbage shows on TV...Or if people honestly have NO IDEA just how bad things were when Obama came into office?

I guess it is both.

Obama has not been perfect & I never expected him to be but I honestly know he has done a very good job considering what he has to deal with! And it has only been TWO YEARS!

Some people even here on DU will NEVER give Obama credit for anything!

28. While I agree with your overall sentiment, I did have a credit card canceled by
the credit card company. I was 23, broke, tried to use it to get a cash advance and the atm sucked it up and told me to call my credit card company. They told me they'd canceled my account. I'd made payments, but apparently not enough.

And I also remember when I worked retail twice being asked to call the credit card company when someone tried to use their card. When I called, they told me to cut up the card and hand the phone to the customer. I don't think either time it was a stolen card.

18. Obama was supposed to provide everyone with free health care,
give credit cards out that folks don't have to pay back,
and hand everyone a job, while he was at it!

Then he'd have a higher approval rating....
or would he?

14. Oh WOW!
Is this supposed to be a joke or are we supposed to see this as CHANGE?!

Only $35 instead of $39 late fee??/ It must be a christmas miracle.

And to think it only cost me an additional 30% so far on my premiums to cover my kid up until he/she is 26, so he/she can receive the same crappy coverage I have.

WOW!

Thanks for the change!

And people wonder why I won't donate anymore money to Obama. With change like this, who needs republicans.

23. Not really.
Because if it is "adding up" then all rules are off and your APR can jump to astronomical levels.

The problem with this bill, the financial reform bill, health insurance bill and most of the other stuff that is considered "accomplishments", is that it arguing over details, when there are substantive problems.

There is a HUGE power difference between the individual and the credit card companies and individuals. Credit card companies take almost no risk in granting an individual credit (thanks to the bankrupcy bill); yet individuals often take HUGE risks in using credit... risks that can negatively impact them for years sometimes even through no fault of their own... such as losing a job to a bad economy and no longer being able to afford payments that they otherwise would have been able to make.

Rather than actually addressing the fundamental and HUGE power difference, democrats passed a credit card reform bill that barely nips at the fringes of the issue... passing minor restrictions on how much a late payment can be and forcing credit card companies to use new ways of generating additional revenue (no more fee free balance transfers... "membership charges" instead of "inactivity fees". Did it even remotely shift the power? No. Was it "change"? No.

Everything's gonna change now! This guy deserves the nobel prize! No wait, he doesn't, but he got one anyways.

I find Obama's tinkering with this, and for-profit health care have cause more harm than good by saying - oh this stuff is fine, we just need to tweak it a little.

It's not fine, and it needed more than a little tweaking. Color me unimpressed.

Thankfully, Wall Street reform passed and the President appointed a friend and advisor to head the agency.

Elizabeth Warren

"It has been more than 20 months since the largest financial crisis since the Great Depression, and we are still living under the same set of rules we had in place before the meltdown. Thanks to the leadership of President Obama, Chairman Frank, and Chairman Dodd, that's about to change. Members of the House-Senate conference committee and their staffs worked through the night to produce the strongest set of Wall Street reforms in three generations. They created a strong, independent consumer agency that will have the tools to rein in industry tricks and traps and to cut out the fine print. For the first time, there will be a financial regulator in Washington watching out for families instead of banks."

Fighting to Protect Consumers

Over the past several weeks, the President and I have had extensive conversations about the vital importance of consumer financial protection.

The President asked me, and I enthusiastically agreed, to serve as an Assistant to the President and Special Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He has also asked me to take on the job to get the new CFPB started—right now. The President and I are committed to the same vision on CFPB, and I am confident that I will have the tools I need to get the job done.

President Obama understands the importance of leveling the playing field again for families and creating protections that work not just for the wealthy or connected, but for every American. The new consumer bureau is based on a pretty simple idea: people ought to be able to read their credit card and mortgage contracts and know the deal. They shouldn’t learn about an unfair rule or practice only when it bites them—way too late for them to do anything about it. The new law creates a chance to put a tough cop on the beat and provide real accountability and oversight of the consumer credit market. The time for hiding tricks and traps in the fine print is over. This new bureau is based on the simple idea that if the playing field is level and families can see what’s going on, they will have better tools to make better choices.

If the CFPB can succeed at leveling the playing field, we can go a long way toward repairing a gaping hole in the budgets of millions of families. But nobody has ever thought or argued that the consumer bureau can fix everything. Lost jobs, stagnant incomes, rising costs for college, dwindling retirement savings—there’s a lot of work to be done.

When she was 16, my grandmother, Hannie Reed, drove a wagon in the Oklahoma land rush. Her mother had died, so she was up front with her little brothers and sisters bouncing around in the back. When I was growing up, she talked about life on the prairie, about marrying my grandfather and making a living building one-room schoolhouses, about getting wiped out in the Great Depression. She was hit with hard challenges throughout her life, but the moral of her stories was always the same: she would solve her problems one at a time by pulling up her socks and getting to work.

It’s time for all of us to pull up our socks and get to work.

Krugman on health care reform:

Guys, this is a major program to aid lower- and lower-middle-income families. How is that not a big progressive victory?

"The Soft Bigotry of Lowered Expectations"?

President Obama, thank you for this, this and all this.

33. My bank is making up for the bill by charging more in other areas. I no longer can get
free checking from them like I used to. So I am actually paying more than before because I didn't ever make any late payments so a break on late payment fees doesn't help me anyway.

That so called financial reform bill was a fraud, and your feel good pro Obama propaganda is getting tiresome.
