(R)asmussen Poll--NY Senate: Gillibrand 54% (+5) DioGuardi (R) 33% (-6)
(Even Ras can't sugar-coat this race)

Democratic incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand receives her highest level of support yet against Republican challenger Joseph DioGuardi in New York’s special U.S. Senate contest.

The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Gillibrand picking up 54% of the vote, while DioGuardi draws the vote from 33%. Six percent (6%) prefer some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The first survey of the race in September following DioGuardi's GOP Primary win found Gillibrand with a 49% to 39% lead. Prior to the latest numbers, support for Gillibrand against DioGuardi has remained in the narrow range of 49% to 51% since May. Support for the Republican, who like Gillibrand is a former congressman, has run from 28% to 39% during the same period.

2. Feel the suspense. I just hope it helps others who may have close races.

3. Why are so many firms even bothering to poll this race any longer?
It's clear that it isn't competitive.

5. The two Senate races in NYS aren't even on the radar.
I happen to know that Schumer and Gillibrand are up for re-election, but I couldn't name their opponents if you held a gun to my head.
