Bush Beat Obama to the Punch On Absorbing Another 9/11

By Kenneth R. Bazinet

The mystery may have been solved into why the GOP and neocon attack machines haven’t really revved up today against President Obama over comments in Bob Woodward’s upcoming book regarding the need to prevent and “absorb” another Sept. 11-style attack.

The reason, as Faiz Shakir of the Think Progress blog has uncovered, is that it was ex- President Bush who first set as a goal the ability to absorb another 9-11.

“We must now focus on the resilience of the system as a whole - an approach that centers on investments that make the system better able to absorb the impact of an event without losing the capacity to function,” a Bush administration document archived on the White House web site reveals.

Only Liz Cheney, the ex-Veep’s bomb-lobbing daughter, and handful of mostly unknown rightwing bloggers, have attacked Obama over a comment that sounds a lot like what the Bushies had in mind.

President Obama told Woodward: “We can absorb a terrorist attack. We’ll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever…We absorbed it and we are stronger.”

Despite what sure looks like the Bush and Obama administrations are in rare agreement, Liz Cheney still issued a statement stating: “This comment suggests an alarming fatalism on the part of President Obama and his administration. Once again the President seems either unwilling or unable to do what it takes to keep this nation safe. The President owes the American people an explanation.”

Really? Maybe Liz’s father would be willing to give that explanation.

2. What gives Liz Cheney any sort of credibility at all?
I mean, her father has none and she should have even less.
