We are a little over a month away from the most important general election of our time and I see a unified Republican party while Democrats, at least online and in the media, seem happy to fight amongst ourselves.
There is too much "he said this, she said that," "he or she is not progressive enough," "we haven't accomplished anything" "Obama, Pelosi and Reid sold us out."
To all of that I say "give me a break."
Let me particularly call out Jane Hamsher and Firedog Lake with a particular "FUCK YOU!"
We are this close to a midterm election that can shift power from the Democrats to the Republicans AND now is not the time for this shit. I'm willing to defend the record of Obama, Pelosi and Reid, but even those not pleased with them have to acknowledge that the way to advance a progressive agenda is to not let the Republicans take over either chamber of Congress.
As the Republicans are generating energy we are continue to generate disunity.
In last 48 hours we hear that Lady Gaga is more a fierce advocate than Obama when it comes to LGBT issues, last I saw Lady Gaga or the political party she leads is not on the fucking ballot.
Obama, Gibbs and company have had to push back at progressives, not because they want to but because they have to. Obama has made so much progress on progressive issues yet a significant part of the progressive movement, led by Hamsher, are sitting in the corner with their arms folded complaining, complaining, complaining. Do they not realize how this constant complaining only empowers the Republicans. Furthermore if Obama and the Dems hold on to power without the support of certain elements of the progressive movement it will be much easier for others to marginalize those elements. Trust me, I'm busting my ass and regardless of the outcome of November I will be less than enthusiastic to listen to or work with those progressives who just sat in the corner pouting.
Lastly, I see some progressives throwing Elizabeth Warren under the bus. We wanted her, we got her but some are more interested in complaining about what title/power she doesn't have than rally around what she does.
Folks, we can win this. But we need to quit sitting in the corner licking our wounds, hit the ground and hit the ground hard. At this point if we lose its going to have a lot more to do with the grassroots not taking responsibility for getting out the vote.
