DE Senate: Desperate Castle launches last minute robo-calls against O'Donnell
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 03:51 PM by WI_DEM
I'm getting to think that Chris Coons could win this thing in DE even if Castle is the nominee (it would be harder, but who knows?:

If Christine O'Donnell loses the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate in Delaware, her supporters may have this to blame:

Ex-aide rips O'Donnell in robocall

WILMINGTON, Del. — Christine O'Donnell's former campaign manager has recorded an Election Day robocall for the Delaware Republican Party meant to shred the tea party-backed candidate's conservative credentials as voters head to the polls.

The last-minute move appears to be the grand finale of what's been a fusillade of orchestrated attacks on O'Donnell originating from GOP headquarters on behalf of her primary opponent, nine-term moderate Rep. Mike Castle.

The call features the voice of Kristin Murray, who ran O'Donnell's 2008 Senate campaign against then-Sen. Joe Biden, and who charges that her old boss "is no conservative."

O'Donnell dismisses the attack as the work of a disgruntled former operative.

“Kristin Murray was fired by Tom Ross, DE GOP Chairman, in June 2008 for being incompetent. She was then picked up by my campaign, was paid and fired after 2 weeks of ‘work’,” O'Donnell wrote in a statement to POLITICO.

We won't know until tonight whether Castle's last ditch robocall attack was enough to bring his campaign back from the brink of defeat (the most recent poll showed him narrowly trailing), but if it does work, Castle's first order of business tomorrow morning won't be to start running against Chris Coons -- it'll be to mend fences pissed off O'Donnell supporters.

1. Interesting. Hopefully the nastiness will be good
for the Dem no matter the outcome.

3. This is reminding me of the SC GOP governors race where Hailey was accused of having affairs
late in the campaign and the attacks backfired and she went on to win a big victory. I'm hoping these attacks on O'Donnell backfire and Castle goes down tonight.

4. If Roth could lose, Castle could
In Delaware they send the same guys back again and again, but booted Roth in the end. And he was an incumbent. Castle doesn't even have this seat already.

5. I'm enjoying watching this Delaware race play out.
It's looking like kind of a win-win for us, honestly.

If Castle wins, he's pissed off much of his party's base (Apparently they even have teabaggers in Delaware; who knew? haha) & likely hurt his image overall. What looked like a likely shoo-in for Castle looks more & more like a competitive election. Guess that's what happens when the 'pugs let their fringe run wild.

If O'Donnell wins, barring a truly frightening nationwide slaughter of anyone with a "D" beside their name at the polls in November, we've got this one in the bag.

6. Truthout had a thing today about how repukes are panicking
in blue states that the teabaggers will be nominated. From my viewpoint, having teabaggers in the Senate from NV, AK, UT, KY will be very dangerous to the country.
