For all those confused about why the WH pulling a they did it too line is stupid...
Edited on Wed Jul-21-10 05:35 PM by xultar
A story for you.

There are two brothers in this family. There is an older brother who is smart, educated, worldly, we know he's going to be something one day. There is a younger pesky brother who is well not all that bright. He plays with fire constantly, he is sloppy, he doesn't pay attention, he is always jumping to one thing or another, lindsay lohan, mel gibson, instead of paying attention to real important stuff like researching his homework.

So, one day the younger pesky brother jumps off the roof and he's fine he is dazed and confused but o.k because he is always dazed and confused. He calls for the older brother to jump off next. Instead of thinking about it like he does with other issues he jumps and unfortunately breaks his ankle. The dad hears the older brother cry in pain and runs to his aid. The dad asks the smarter older brother, "Why did you jump off the roof?" The older more stately brother says, "Well he did it." The dad yells back, "If your dumb ass brother knee jerked on a story and over reacted would you do it too?"

Does that clear it up?

Now I'm not saying that the WH shouldn't call out the media, there is plenty to say about this issue over and beyond they did it too.

I apologize but after running after my 5 and 6 year olds all day, I cannot compute things that easily.

21. Shorter OP: "Lie down with fools, look foolish"
or, "But, but but...THEY did it, too" is rarely ever an effective excuse, especially for folks who are smart enough to know better.

24. It's really quite simple.
Just because others have a knee jerk reaction to a story, doesn't mean Obama has to break his ankle by jumping of the White House.

Or something like that.

10. Yes; Vilsack overreacted. No evidence that the WH did so in this case
people make mistakes. Vilsack did the long walk of shame and IMO has corrected his mistake.

Can we focus on the bastards who committed the crime?

You will be eating those words soon. Watch CNN coverage tonight. WH has admitted that they were in the loop from the beginning - discussed it in a staff meeting yesterday morning. They agreed to her firing.

16. She had already resigned by then
Agreeing to it after the fact is different from asking her to be fired.

15. Who do you think Vilsak works for? The WH has also apologized
because they recognized their mistake. I applaud them for it. FOX should be sued, fined and reprimanded for doctoring of video. It is too bad this won't cost them their license. But as nothing happened to them for doctoring the Acorn video, I doubt anything will be done.

19. Vilsack does have discretion over the fires and hires of his department.
Hence the reason he is Head of the department. The only official spoken to in the WH it would seem is the HR low level liaison in the WH.

22.  You just don't get it. Sherrod was very well known. and this wasn't anything routine.
Edited on Wed Jul-21-10 09:58 PM by saracat
The is was WH PR in immediate response Crisis mode, and the PR team made a lot of assumptions and didn't check anything out. Sherrod herself was quoted as saying the WH wanted her out. She was told this by Cook ,the under Sec of AG. and if you want to see who Sherrod actually was read Willie Nelson's tribute to her. Vilsak had little to do with this. If he had anything at all to do with it he was following orders.

25. ^ Exactly ^
No matter how little anybody thinks of Vilsack he could not have the authority to act unilaterally on this.

12. I'm thinking the younger goofy obnoxious brother is Fox news,
and the Obama administration is the Older wiser brother that gets sucked in to his brother's antics,
and has to bear all of the blame, and the pain of the fall cause he should know better.....

the father is played by CNN.

Moral of the parable....
Don't have millions of people following the younger brother on a daily basis....
best put the older brother out as the example,
and dig a hole for the younger brother to step into...so he can just fucking disappear,
or be ignored.

Something like that...

23. But aren't the media the investigators?
They are the ones that are supposed to be smart. First with Fox, they are liars. Then the rest just go with it without investigating. They are the ones supposed to be curious and seeking out the truth.
