Kirkland IE slams Flinn over hip-hop
Tennessee Republican congressional candidate George Flinn is coming under attack for his ownership of a Memphis radio station that broadcasts hip-hop music.

Robert Kirkland, a home décor company founder who has waged a nearly $1 million independent expenditure campaign in support of his brother, 8th District GOP primary candidate Ronald Kirkland, has launched a new offensive slamming Flinn over the radio station, Hot 107.1 FM, which promotes itself as broadcasting “Non-Stop Hip-Hop.” A TV ad hammers Flinn for broadcasting music that “promotes gang violence, drug abuse, and insults women,” while a companion mailer accuses him of bringing “filthy gangster rap into our district.”

Brad Greer, a Robert Kirkland consultant, said Flinn’s ownership of the station contradicted the conservative values-oriented message he had been espousing in his campaign. “Our kids are not for sale. They’re not a market,” said Greer. “He needs to take his music and take it right back to his house, where he can keep it.”

Greer did not specify how much Kirkland spent to fund the ad but called the buy “significant.”
