88. I probably will.
I was never expecting fairy dust to settle over the land, bringing with it a big comfy blanket of change. The main thing we need to do now is support congressional candidates who are willing to stand up to corporatism.

112. Agreed - too soon to tell - he gets no free vote from me
It's fucking 2009 - I sure as hell aint gonna commit to this guy for 2012 at this point! This whole war thing is really pissing me off.

Sanders/Kucinich is much more to my liking as Obama slips further from it every day. :(

15. I haven't made up my mind yet.
In many ways Obama seems like "more of the same" only in a more erudite package. The "change we can believe in" so far has been window-dressing.

I'm not impressed, but I'll admit I'm a hard one to please.

27. Does the phrase field of Romney, Palin, Daniels, and Lou Dobbs
mean anything to you? (Or arrange the deck chairs however you like, I defy you to come up with someone that isn't likely to be the worst President ever in that bunch).

I'll take a corporatist over a dark ager every day and twice on Sunday.

As far as I'm concerned nothing has changed the basic equation we had a year+ ago except the Confederates are even more batshit crazy fringe to the top than I had already believed.

Further, I don't see any other Democrat that is a better alternative that could accomplish more of what I want to see done so yeah I expect Obama to continue to be the best overall option. That may change but at just over 10 months I've had no fundamental change of opinion of the general electoral situation.

141. thank you. How soon we have forgotten just how awful the "worse of two evils" can be
I wasn't terribly pleased with Gore, and many people made the mistake of saying "both parties are the same" kind of crap (which, by the way, is a f***ing Republican talking point to discourage people from voting in general, and to whitewash their own crimes!), and look what we got.

Hell, the entire reason we're even IN these messes at home and abroad is because we had President Sh*t-for-brains screwing everything up for 8 years, something that I don't foresee being fixed in a few months as much as I'd like it to be.

28. K&R, if he continues to follow what he promised in his campaign.
So far, he has. And even if he doesn't, and he runs again, I would never, ever vote for a repub. Third party candidates are the ruin of either a dem or repub, and I prefer it to be the repub.

32. I will review his record before make an issues oriented decision.
Why promise to support someone before looking at his record?
That sounds more like Hero Worship instead of political awareness.

Lets do a quick review so far:

*The Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party SHUT OUT of the Obama Administration...Mission Accomplished!

*WARS fully funded and EXPANDING. Bill sent to our children...Mission Accomplished !

*Trillion Dollars given to friends and campaign contributors on Wall Street. No Strings Attached...Mission Accomplished!

*Military Spending INCREASED....Mission Accomplished!

*Trillion+ Dollars given to the Health Insurance Industry. Token, easily avoidable, symbolic only strings attached....Mission almost Accomplished!

*Kill the possibility for a REAL "Public Option" or REAL Universal Health Care for at least another generation....Mission almost Accomplished!

*Block ANY re-regulation of BIG BANKS and Credit Cards....Mission Accomplished!

*Protect the Bush War Criminals and Torturers from JUSTICE....Mission Accomplished.

*Throw the Dirty Hippie Peaceniks, Liberals, and GBLT under the bus....Mission Accomplished!

*Reinforce the worst Police State provisions of the Patriot Act....Mission Accomplished!

*Protect the very richest. Tell the Working Class that they CAN will be forced to compete with 3rd World Slave Labor.....Mission Accomplished!

*EFCA (Employee Free Choice Act) killed in the crib....Mission Accomplished!

*More Anti-LABOR "Free Trade"....Mission almost Accomplished!

*Jobless Recovery....Mission Accomplished

Oh YES!
Obama is off to a great start!
Keep up the good work!
I can't wait to vote for MORE of THIS!

But from the information I do have:
A. There's no viable third party candidate on the horizon in our lifetimes.
B. Voting for a liberal third party candidate would split the left's votes.
C. President Sarah Palin does not seem to interest me in the least, and I refuse to support her bid for the White House by proxy.

107. How about a President who leads and pushes for Medicare For All
Edited on Wed Dec-02-09 01:52 AM by PHIMG
That would have breathed new life into an existing movement that could have drawfed the teabaggers.

Instead he took it off the table and told the senate that the best we can do is hand the insurance companies hundreds of billions in subsidies and maybe if we're lucky get a a watered down 5 million only triggered public option in exchange. This is not change we can believe in.

I didn't vote for President Rahm Emmanuel. I voted against Hillary because I wanted a bold democratic president. Not a Clintonian pre-capitulator.

I look forward to voting against him in the 2012 primary. Let the chips fall where they may.

We so are lucky to have him.

I'm looking for a podcast so I can hear the whole speech, but the little I heard on the way home from work sounded like he isn't even thinking about running for re-election.

All the military people that I know wanted us to get to work on Afghanistan seriously or get the hell out. None of them wanted to flap around in the wind as we were.

God bless and protect him and his family and all our men and women in uniform, and the people of the world. And yes, you too.

This family was heavily impacted by Vietnam. I know the President made this decision with deep respect and understanding. I know many of us disagree, and you have every right to think whatever you think, but you won't ever change my mind.

108. 2012? I don't "plan" that far ahead in a political sense. Every candidate for President runs for
a FOUR YEAR TERM. His or her promises should be taken in that context. If you as a candidate tell me you can change the world and convince me that you deserve my vote, as a voter I'd expect you to come through on your promises within your four year term.

That being said, if there is anything resembling "DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL" still being taken as SOP in the Armed Forces, if DOMA isn't repealed, if NAFTA isn't being renegotiated, if EFCA isn't implemented BY 2012, I'm going to be looking for alternatives and hoping for a primary challenge. I'll still vote for whatever Democrat runs for President, no matter who it is.

Do I PLAN on supporting President Obama for re-election to a second term in 2012? Only time will tell.

I really hope we can challenge him from the left in the primary. Even if we lose, the challenge will move the whole frame of the debate to the left, issues will be discussed in ways they otherwise won't. Our country really needs this. And if Obama keeps governing from the sweet spot of the corporate center, I hope we beat him.

Kucinich? Dean? Weiner? Grayson? I dunno, but someone needs to step up and show a bold alternative to this staid centrism.

I'd get behind Al, he has a big ol funny ass to hide behind, and also the rare ability to explain progressive positions to non-progressive people so that it makes sense to them. if we get a repuke, than that's the same as not getting none from Obama.

So far, Obama is escalating the war in Afghanistan. we haven't pulled out of Iraq and I have yet to see a final version of a health care bill with a public option.

NO.

but the Democratic political establishment will never allow a more progressive and powerful Democrat to challenge him.
voting for a 3rd party candidate is like giving votes to the Republicans.
I can't afford not to vote because that's almost as good as giving votes to Republicans.

So what choice do i have? All i can do is vote against the Republican candidate.

169. It depends - is there a viable alternative who is more progressive?
Viability goes a long way with me.

If there is no viable option then I will vote for Obama over ANY republican and over most third party simply because third party is not viable yet.

170. No, if he continues bush policies
No, if he continues extending the "patriot act"
No, if he continues wars of aggression in countries that did NOTHING to us
No, if he continues to protect war criminals cheney/bush instead of sending them to jail, where they belong
No, if continues supporting the banksters and their bonuses for reaming us
No, if he continues to live by rip-off doctors and pharma companies rules
No, not at the rate he's going.

I voted for CHANGE and will vote for change, again. Take THAT to the bank!

Kucinich and Ron Paul are the only pols who have any inclination to CHANGE things
