Harry's gettting tough!! -- Financial Reform Revotes Coming Tuesday And Wednesday
Financial Reform Revotes Coming Tuesday And Wednesday

Democrats will use Senate rules to force a series of revotes this week, to pressure the GOP to break their filibuster on debating financial reform legislation. Tonight, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid filed cloture, again, on the motion to proceed to debate the Democrats' bill, authored by Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT). That cloture vote will occur Wednesday.

But because Reid himself voted "no" tonight, Senate rules allow him to call a vote on a motion to reconsider. That procedural vote will be held tomorrow afternoon. Let the games begin!

Love it! Give em hell Harry!

1. Excellent! And now all those 'sterling journalists' will have all night
to 'craft' some great articles about what sellouts the rethugs are, and how the Dems plan on taking it to them. Right? Right??

2. Oh my. That's even better than my suggestion that Democrats repeat it every day.
That's actually pretty fucking badass, Harry.

3. Keith said the Repukes only agreed to block the bill once
So it'll be interesting to see if one or two will come to their senses later this week...

21. What reason was given for blocking it once?
What do they gain by that move?

22. I guess they're trying to have it both ways. Kiss up to the banks and then pretend
that they ended doing the right thing for their constituents.

24. Yeah, I suppose that will fool a few people and placate a few more.
And in the end we'll all get screwed by them.

4. Note also: This is about as close to "forcing a real filibuster" as can be hoped for.

13. Yup, the 2010 version of the filibuster. Make them vote on it again and again.

Harry's not perfect, but we can assume any Nevada 'Pug in his seat would be a nightmare.

30. Between a person who helped pass HCR after 60 years of trying and a person who says chickens to pay
for HC are the answer, the morons will surely choose the latter.

:eyes:

This country is filled with imbeciles.

6. I don't see how re-voting will change anything. The republicans and Nelson are against reform.
It seems like a waste of time to me.

9. See comment 3 from HughMoran..
The Repubs have been hinting all weekend they would eventually give in. Not really sure what they accomplished with their "no" show today.

11. It still doesn't make sense, but we'll see. It was lockstep today, just like HCR, and
what republican would risk Limbaugh's or the teabagger's wrath?

12. Snowe and a few others have done it before..
I think Harry and the Dems are going to win this battle. This is not like HCR.. This issue is not so easy to demonize.

18. Don't worry about it. Let the "we're all doomed" people continue along their miserable way.
They're rather like those dwarves at the end of the last Narnia book - no matter what you say, all they hear is bad news. (shrug)

29. Remember those ads about how John Kerry voted 200 times to raise taxes or something like that
That's basically how this works. Each time Republicans vote NAY it's at least one (maybe more if there are multiple procedural votes) that they've voted against regulating Wall Street.

31. No actually it's very smart
Every time the Republicans vote "No" they lose support. It makes no sense to some of the thinking supporters, why are the Republicans protecting the very industry that destroyed the economy.

Reid is giving them the rope to hang themselves.

10. That's how we do it.
Force the GOP to bathe in the radioactivity from Wall Street, front and center, and see how long they can keep it up!

17. Bingo!
Let the people know exactly what the Republicans are blocking. If we don't fix these derivatives issues and reform these big banks on Wall Street, the people may not be so lucky when the next big bank goes under. Their 401K's and their savings may not recover the next time. The Republicans are putting the savings of all Americans at risk. The Democrats need to define exactly what the Repubs are doing.

15. Putting the repubs on record voting against reform is good for this fall's campaign.
Figure in silhouette feet on desk smoking a cigar and sipping whiskey...

Camera pulls back to reveal another cigar smoker with feet up on other side of desk.

"Six times Senator Asshat voted against you and for his fat cat banker buddies. Words are cheap - his values are his votes."

Silhouetted figures raise their glass of whiskey to each other and laugh...

It should be a tv spectacle that shows Republicans in all their self-interested ugliness!

23. The next cloture vote will be about 4:30. R's will hand together. Ben Nelson says he has to read
the bill before he can vote to begin debate. Horseshit! The bill has been available for some time now.
