Sandwich-board job hunter finds work after 2 years

Well, if Paul Nawrocki is a sign of the times, then times are looking up.

Because last month, after collecting 99 weeks of unemployment, Nawrocki finally found a job... He's not the only one. While unemployment remains high, the nation added 162,000 jobs last month — the first significant job growth since the downturn began.

"It was good. It felt good," the Beacon, N.Y., resident says of his first day back at an office — 25 months after he was asked to leave his old one. "It felt like all new again because it had been so long."

The sad part of Paul's story is that the financial impact on his long term unemployment. Poor dude is 6 months behind on one of his mortgages. And he will be earning about half of what he used to make. Yes, this economy is going to have some long lasting negative impacts on a lot of folks. I personally now have a nasty eviction on my formerly spotless rental history. I know I will have a really hard time getting into one of the better apartments if I should ever want or need to go that route again. This guy probably paid his mortgage on time each and every month for decades, but unfortunately, in this truly unforgiving society, he will be punished for the delinquencies that were due to circumstances beyond his control.

I really hope that this article generates enough interest for folks out there to take up a collection for the guys mortgage default and help get the thing caught up!

And I am so very sorry to hear that you are in that boat. As I stated, the black mark on my previously spotless rental record will punish me for decades to come, too.

Maybe someone out there will do a story on the very real emotional cost of this economy; not just the stories about "Frugalistas" who had to cut back on their daily Starbucks and weekly pedicures....
