***Official Healthcare Summit Thread****
Edited on Thu Feb-25-10 11:04 AM by The empressof all
I thought I'd start this for those in GDP who like a central gathering place. Let me know if I need to lock and start another one when/if this gets too long.

I'm late to the party. Just got up on the West Coast so I'm an hour behind I guess. What did I miss?

9. The fraud I've witness was done by....
the medical community and not persons being covered by Medicaid. My nephew qualified for a KY state insurance program that covered dental care. He had numerous cavities when he went to a dentist who accepted the card and they made him exactly that same number of appointments to fill them. They would only work on one tooth at a time; it increased the office visit costs greatly.

I know Obama certainly doesnt want to consider it but very surprised to hear a democrat mention it (Hoyer)....At least it got a mention but doubt it will get any traction in these talks.

14. Looks To Me That Obama Is Luring The Regressive's(formerly Repug's).....
down the road to support a 'public option'. If that is what is going on here - I applaud the effort. I keep laughing that neither McConnell nor Boehner want to speak or say anything and they are deffering all comments to lesser prominent individuals in their party. I'm thinking that they want to be able to criticize after this is over and don't want to get caught putting their foot in their mouth at this meeting. My comment to that is that they had an opportunity to speak up at this meeting and if they didn't take in upon themselves to do it at this meeting - they have no right criticizing this after the fact.

12. The republicans are skipping around what the president
Edited on Thu Feb-25-10 11:27 AM by Kind of Blue
said the point of his meeting is - finding where they agree on the bill and work on where they disagree. First Repub speaker Lamar wants to scrap the bill and get the Dems to promise not use reconciliation.

Rep. Coburn is worried about Medicare fraud but it's obvious he hasn't fully read the bill or knows of provisions addressing the issue.

It seems Repubs want to keep the summit political and not work on the bill itself - basically where they disagree.

13. If you want to watch it without commentary
Edited on Thu Feb-25-10 11:27 AM by LatteLibertine
from pundits try C-SPAN 3. If you don't have that you may stream it from C-SPAN's internet site. You can view in on their C-SPAN 3 stream.

http://www.c-span.org/Watch/C-SPAN3_wm.aspx

MSNBC and CNN are doing commercials and commentary. I am not interested in either. I want to watch the event unfiltered and uninterrupted.

18. Why so many people?
Edited on Thu Feb-25-10 12:51 PM by howaboutme
The bigger the meeting the less that is accomplished, and the more confusing is the outcome. They have too many people there all of whom are politicians who want to talk and posture. The previous meeting with just Obama vs. the Republicans was more effective.
