Why in the Hell can this country not work on Energy Independence???
Spend 10 Billion on the power grid and Solar/Wind power!! That would be a good start!

Make sure all of the stuff used for it is built in this county.

So many studies show that it is possible to become independent of fossil fuels in 20-30 years!

It would create jobs and in the long run save our asses.

I think once again Big Oil money is stopping anything in this area!

4. Not to mention the transportation industry
Here in KC, coal trains are daily lumbering through the area. I've heard that to take on the fossil fuels industry, you have to battle the transportation industry (i.e. the railroads) as well.

The big three of maintaining the status quo: (coal) mining, (coal-fired) power plants, and the (coal-carrying) railroads.

5. But virtually all of our coal is domestic
Running everything on coal and gas *would* be energy independence. Pickens was right about that, at least.

8. Big carbon runs the show and would rather kill every living thing than lose a nickle
Also, people desperate for work will fight for big carbon just on the off hand chance they can get one of the precious few jobs big carbon might offer even though additional industries could be had or sought, Big carbon is in town so they can play the only game in town angle.

Big carbon will even work to keep other types of opportunity out of an area for the captive workforce, least they realize the dirty air and water aren't worth the few possible positions.
