26. Know much about her likely opponent Tom Campbell?
He'd probably support Bernanke in a heartbeat.

And there's no way in hell he can run a populist campaign...he's a Stanford Professor who seems like he was a Stanford professor in 1910, not 2010.

I wouldn't second-guess Boxer on this decision, everyone says she's too liberal to be elected in this state and by being what she is and not being ashamed of it, she gets elected each time --first against a conservative talk show host in 1992, then a 10 point win against a moderate Republican in 1998, and a 20 point win against a Republican statewide officeholder in 2004.

49. so far, she owns the record for most votes received for a Senate candidate
she received more than 6.9 million votes, the highest total for any Senate candidate in American history.

Top five for an American politician in history.

Running as an unapologetic LIBERAL.

I think you don't have any idea what you're talking about.

5. Uh no
Even if this was true her opponent is Carly Fiorina.

The only way Boxer loses is if she gets caught in a dead girl/live boy scenario.

You've got a real thing for conspiracy theories, don't you? I seem to recall one of your threads was about Michelle Obama's "baby bump".

33. Um, there's no official candidate yet
Fiorina's making a lot of noise, but she still has to make it through the Republican primaries later this year. Since they tend to go for the most bat-shit crazy of the bunch, I think she'll beat Campbell, but it's not a done deal yet.

Boxer vs Fiorina - I can see Boxer winning handily. Boxer vs Campbell - not so clear.

9. Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd (I know, I know) mentioned Boxer and
two others who were going to oppose re-confirmation, and pointed out that what the three have in common is they're up for re-election.

Don't know if that's her motivation or not, but just passing it along.

Personally, I think Boxer would vote the way she feels is best, but one can't discount an upcoming election.

Well, obviously you can, but don't expect it to be taken seriously.

So here's your chance. Why exactly would failing to support Bernanke cost Ms. Boxer anything at all? Why would it not in fact bolster her campaign? Bernanke isn't exactly a popular man amongst voters right now.

Campbell is pro-choice and the California GOP isn't going to make him the nominee, the tea party will be out in strong force for DeVore. And if Campbell did get the nomination, Boxer would still win, because he's not going to offer anything worth voting for.

57. You Know Absolutely Nothing About California Politics
I lived in Tom Campbell's district for a time. He's tried to run for the Senate twice before. In 1992, he lost to Bruce Herschensohn in the Republican primary who then lost to Barbara Boxer in the general election. In 2000, he ran against Diane Feinstein and lost by something like 19 points. He even lost his own district where I lived.

He probably would have lost his re-elections to his House seat in 1996 or 1998 had the Democratic party been able to find a better candidate. I worked both of those elections on the state level.

The White House isn't about to hold a grudge against Boxer for not supporting Bernanke even if he isn't confirmed. President Obama is a big fan of hers and her grandson is Hillary Clinton's nephew (though her daughter and Clinton's brother are divorced)

Try again...
