5. There's a casino in Las Vegas called Mandalay Bay
Very pretty, rather upscale, hosts a lot of UFC pay-per-view events. But the last I heard about it, they might have to demolish the whole casino in a few years unless a miracle happens because there's a big problem with the foundations that the casino was built on - some hidden flaw that the contractors should have discovered a long time ago.

Will health insurance reform in America suffer because of a shaky, unstable foundation? God, I hope not.

10. Translation
"Will health insurance reform in America suffer because of a shaky, unstable foundation? God, I hope not."

You hope not, but are making up doomsday scenarios correlating health care reform to building that was torn down?

Seriously, translation: Blah, blah, blah.

21. Translation Suggestion
"We shouldn't do ANYTHING on Health Care unless we're 100% certain that we're 100% correct."

Since that will never happen -- nothing in life is that certain -- then we should never, EVER do anything about health care.

That line of thinking is EXACTLY what the insurance companies and the US Chamber of Commerce want to hear. Amazing that it's coming from a Democratic Website.

6. You (and these "experts") are out your minds (and tone deaf to boot)
The Senate bill is a disaster and- according to the breakdown and analysis significantly contributed to losing in Massachusetts.

The stupidest thing in the world would be to pass this crap legislation as is an further associate the party with the insurance industry and PhARMA.

The OP is bass ackwards- pass the major and popular provisions through reconciliation and then put reform of insurance abuses through the political process. See who stands up and opposes that.

Not sure that anyone could come up with a better campaign issue to run on (or villains to run against) than that.

There's no sense in citing the breakdown of the voters- or the polling on this piece of crap legislation.

Sometimes I think Democratic "leaders" and those who blindly follow their piper's tunes actually WANT to be back in the minority.

It would certainly explain a lot- you know, like that Occam's razor thing.

19. There's no sense in arguing with you- read the various breakdowns on DU
people (and especially Obama voters) were unhappy with this crappy "compromised" legislation- and a number of other things that some of us have been harping about for many, many months.

Democrats would have to be out of their minds to pass the unpopular Senate bill in this manner. Not that there aren't better- and more effective alternatives.

15. Every qualified expert who has looked at this disagrees with the crying lib party line on this.
Sixty Senators including Bernie Sanders and Al Franken disagree.

Paul Krugman disagrees.

The only people who think this is just a mean corporatist trick to take the poor man's last nickel are screaming lib crybabies who post non-stop on boards like this.

Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 11:52 AM by depakid
One thing for sure though- there are some folks out there who definitely deserve the consequences that this fiasco would entail.

Thankfully for them- and the rest of us, it's unlikely to happen that way.

And they managed to get a majority of Senators to agree.
