Students go on strike after arrests in Brazil
SAO PAULO (AP) — Students at one of Brazil's most elite universities are going on strike a day after riot police forcibly removed them from an occupied building on campus.

The students voted for the strike after police raided an administration building and arrested 70 students who were protesting police patrols on the campus of the University of Sao Paulo.

1. Police forces play a dirty role in the region
"random searches, intimidation" and constant extortion. In this case, it may be addressed to wealthy kids but generally it's the poorer people who suffer the most from police abuses. In Venezuela, we hear a lot about the Brazilian quasi-fascistic anti-narcotic military police of Rio (is it called BOPE?).

Hard to reconfigure, certainly, but also an evident lack of political courage.

2. Yes,
BOPE is the name. And the Brazilian media is trying hard to sell their image as that of a "National hero of the 21st century".
