Court dismisses charges against Honduras coup generals
(AFP) – 9 hours ago

TEGUCIGALPA — A judge dismissed charges against six generals who led Honduras' June coup, a day before a new president was to be inaugurated and deposed leader Manuel Zelaya was due to leave Honduras.

Jorge Rivera, the president of the Honduran Supreme Court, said charges against the military chiefs would be "definitively stayed."

"Before and after they took Zelaya into custody, the accused were receiving information suggesting that the country was in grave danger," said Rivera.

The generals acted to "preserve democracy and the republic and avoid bloodshed."
