BIDEN Issues Statement on Pakistani Political Situation and President Musharraf

August 15, 2008

Washington, DC - Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-DE) issued the following statement today about the Pakistani political situation and the political future of President Musharraf:

“I am heartened by the reconciliation of the leading political parties in Pakistan and their decision to break the deadlock, which has virtually immobilized the Pakistani government in recent months. The political future of President Musharraf is a matter to be decided by the Pakistani people, through normal constitutional channels. I urge the parties, the Pakistani military and President Musharraf to resolve this crisis within the bounds of Pakistani law – and I urge the Bush Administration to refrain from any actions which might appear to thwart the will of the Pakistani people.”

5. You sent me to look at my Google alerts. This is from the CNN
Political Ticker:

The announcement also comes the same day Biden hit the campaign trail for the Illinois senator, accepting an endorsement on his behalf from the International Association of Firefighters in Las Vegas.

So NOW I'm wondering if this is a way of slowly introducing him ... giving people hints and watching the reaction. ???

My thoughts change hourly. This morning I was convinced it wouldn't be him. Now (after reading one who sentence -- or reading INTO one sentence) I'm not so sure...

3. But I fear he's making an unreasonable request:
"...and I urge the Bush Administration to refrain from any actions which might appear to thwart the will of the Pakistani people.”

Every action this administration takes is the wrong one.

4. Well, Bush is going on vacation
so hopefully he'll put the world on hold for a while. Kick back George, have a few drinks, the world can self-destruct without your help.

10. Gulp. But WHO'S left in Washington? The REAL balls behind the administration.
Maybe there's a reason for him taking a vacation now. :scared:

14. Yeah, get him out of the way
before he blows it and messes up their real plans. "We're done wit ya now kid. You can take off and kick back in Texas. We'll take over from here........oh yeah, the check is in the mail."

7. Ha! Funny comment
from The New Republic:

OK, so why didn't we nominate Joe in the first place? As opposed to a guy who not only is light on foreign policy, but also barely registers with ordinary working American families on economic matters.

Is there any procedural provision that would allow the party to put Biden at the head of the ticket and scrap the newbie?

9. This is why I hate that the primaries narrow the candidates 10 months
before the election. World events can change, Edwards crap, etc. I hate the long drawn-out, too-early primary.
