There was a small part of me that wanted to protect myself from going through that horrible sense of loss that I experienced back then when Wes dropped out. In the back of my mind I always felt a cautionary note. Even so, this hurts.

After Wes dropped out in 2004, I mourned but really started liking John Kerry. Wes really thought a lot of him and told us as much. This time I don't see anyone on the horizon.

but at what risk? Both of the winners tonight are very inexperienced in many ways. Change is a nice word, but it has to have real ideas and momentum behind it.

Keep your head up high woman, you represented Sen. Biden and what he stood for very, very well. It was a pleasure to talk with you over this past year on the triumphs and misses in the Senate.

And Sen. Biden is not done, he is just refocusing his efforts. He is a good man and a brilliant thinker on the Middle East. Our country still needs Joe Biden. And I know he will be there because of that.

Bless him and his family and all you wonderful supporters. And woman, let's not be strangers over the course of this year. We have a lot to fight for, together.
