Dublin (Calif.) Transit-Oriented Complex Gets Approval
from the Contra Costa Times, via MassTransitMag:

Dublin Transit-Oriented Complex Gets Approval in CA

By Sophia Kazmi, Staff Writer, Contra Costa Times (California)

The goal of the latest apartment project approved by the Dublin City Council is to get its residents out of their cars.

The council voted 3-2 Tuesday to approve the 309-unit Windstar apartment complex on St. Patrick Way and Golden Gate Drive about 200 yards from the West Dublin/Pleasanton BART station, now under construction.

The biggest point of contention was the amount of parking proposed at the six-story residential building. Its 87 guest-parking spots short of typical Dublin requirements for a residential project of this size.

One way Windstar plans to address that problem is to tie rents to the number of cars residents have, said Eric Heffner, the company's senior vice president. The more cars a tenant owns, the higher the rent will be, he said.

"We're not building this project for families," Heffner said.

There are also studies showing people who live in homes close to mass transit use their cars less. ........(more)

1. I'd like to see those studies
"There are also studies showing people who live in homes close to mass transit use their cars less."

The logical response to that should be "well, no shit, Sherlock", but unfortunately this point seems to be lost on the boobs who run cities like the one where I live, who think that it's acceptable to provide a skeleton service covering only about 60% of the city and where large areas are without any public transportation.
