4. But I thought we were fighting them over there so they wouldn't attack us here
<sigh> And if that doesn't get ya, don't forget you could be on the same plane with someone who has drug resistant TB. Still not enough? I notice the CBS morning show has been yammering about all the germs lurking in hotel rooms.

Honestly, I just can't decide what I should be the most afraid of anymore.

5. You see this is what the Democratic party needs to latch on to
Edited on Tue May-29-07 07:44 PM by MadMaddie
The Republican party is so afraid of the world they are acting irrational and like frightened children.

The Democratic party offers leadership that is not afraid of OBL or Al Queda or world events.

The Democratic party will bring back the professionals not party hacks to rebuild the government organizations that the Republic party drowned in a bathtup with incompetence.

You see we have to take ownership of the language and the issues.

8. Good point.
When you hear a sound outside the house, maybe someone looking for an open window or an unlatched door, or when the wind's kicking up and you aren't sure if it's a branch against the siding or someone testing the basement door, do you want someone who calmly takes charge or a crying (Boehner), panicky ninny?

The Dems need to let Americans know we're securing the doors, checking the windows, turning on the lights, and grabbing the necessary weapons to defend the house. Cowards and Republicans -- move to the safe room. We'll let you know when you can come out.

18. On 9-11, bush came here to Offut AFB in Omaha, and was
immediately sequestered away from the public.

OK, I'm no hero, but I know what I would have done if I were in his place that day...AF 1 would have either flown to DC or NYC. For all of the RW bullshit about bush being taken to Offut "for his security" is disgusting. The PotUS overrules anything the SS/FBI/CIA can recommend. bush came to Offut because he is a stinking coward!

There are times when leadership demands placing ones self in possible danger, we all know now, there was no danger after the planes had done what there cast to do. But bush remained "hidden", he's as yellow as they come. FDR crossed the Atlantic when remnants of wolfpacks still roamed the seas. It would have been tragic if he were caught in an attack, but he was a leader who knew what Americans expected of their leaders.

Truman, after Puerto Rican separatists killed a SS Agent outside Blair House, to see what the commotion was all about. This man had guts.

Lincoln, in the midst of the darkest time this nation had ever seen, stayed in DC and the surrounding areas even though he was marked for death by several groups and individuals. Eventually this cost him his life, but he was a leader.

All of these men knew that to "show the white feather" was not the way to lead...bush, he ran, as cowards always do.

Dems lead by example, R's don't lead at all, but they make sure they are well protected...x(

And FWIW, although Lincoln was the first R, this GOP today, has nothing to call itself the "party of Lincoln, there is NOTHING of Lincoln in these bastards...:grr:

20. Didn't know that story about Truman.
That's something for me to check out.

In my opinion, the true test of a man (or woman) is not what they say or do when they're comfortable and safe, but how they act and speak when the shit is flying and the world is crashing down.

Who do I look to in that situation? The one who faces into the storm and shouts it down.

(Showing up two days later with a bullhorn does not count.)

24. Precisely...shout down the storm and be firm in leadership...
As for the Truman story, it did happen. When the Puerto Rican separatists shot up the Senate back in the 40's they also planned on killing Truman. He was staying at Blair House as they renovated the WH from the ground up interiorly. It showed what leadership is all about...:D

Dolley Madison is another exceptionally courageous person in our history. While James took off the outskirts of DC, Dolley stayed in the WH till the last possible minute. The British were about 100 yards away when she finally left w/that famous portrait ow Washington, and some other items, mostly papers from the WH. the guards had left long before, and she would no leave until it was absolutely necessary. Dolley was one hell of a woman, far ahead of her time, and someone mot Americans should emulate. She was the quintessential diplomat, hostess and showed a strength of character far before many women understood that they could actually strive to become equals...:D

Kidding, of course. Hell, their motto, as well as the Bush administration's motto, ought to be, "We have nothing to sell, but fear itself."

They've cried wolf far too many times.

16. I'm beginning to wonder if a large portion of the country is
mildly autistic and "stimming" from these warnings and fear tactics. Like it's fun to play at survivalism or something.

(I have a autistic child, and I understand how these kids self-stimulate emotionally off of others' behavior and expressions of great pain, fear, whatever.)

It would give them their first chance, literally in years, to rub peoples' noses in something and say, "see?!". It'd give them a chance to ramp up the authoritarianism they love so much.

Besides, it's not like terrorists would ever want to blow up *their* towns. It'd be some liberal city that'd be hit. I've never understood how they can call New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New Orleans, etc., 'liberal cesspools'- even suggest that terrorists attack them, ala Bill O'Reilly, and simultaneously pretend to give a shit about 9-11.
