Lala RawRaw Alert: The Beeyoutiful Lady nails this one.
The country is reaching critical mass and even if you were not a witness to Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck's near cat fight on national television, you likely have noticed a palpable national nervous breakdown building all around you. I don't mean the rabid hate and death threats issuing out of the right wing circus and its bigots of patriotism or the pundits of malevolence who get paid to spew forth venom on Fox.

No, sadly that rhetoric is the normal condition of bitter, self-hating, and corrupt mental midgets striving for attention in a world where they can no longer disguise themselves in bed sheets and declare themselves to be the superior race. While O'Donnell and Hasselbeck had a tiff, to be sure, it was Fox guest Curtis Sliwa who actually threatened violence, openly and on national television expressing his wish to take a baseball bat to O'Donnell and beat her like a "human piñata."

Violent Hate

Obviously such misogyny is normal for men of little intellect and commonplace among the Fox propagandists. But it is not what these lunatics say that is at issue; rather, it is how the country reacts or does not react that is of concern.

Historically, the normal reaction of the civilized world towards these ethically vacant kooks has been to cast them to the periphery of society, from which their deranged and violent world view can do little harm.

After all, hate unchecked but so carefully publicized was one of the major contributors to the rise of Nazis. No, the normal reaction of even a mildly ethical society would be to make someone like Sliwa an outcast among decent people, and certainly to keep him at a distance from the female citizenry. One has to wonder if he beats his wife or girlfriend when she gets a bit too mouthy. In our culture, however, with its politics of hate, such rhetoric is treated as normal Worse still; there is no reaction from a society which claims to have "values" and the ear of "God."

Do read the whole thing. She really brings it all home at the end. Could be the best thing she has written.

3. Yes, lala nails it: "The desperation of those in power." They encourage
the hatred and need to have the citizenry war on each other rather than notice who the common enemy is.

4. OMG, she nailed it
And I thought it was just us here who were feeling this way. I really have felt isolated in my anger/frustration for a while and DU has kept me just this side of sane. But Lala's piece explains so much to me -- recent experiences I wasn't seeing clearly. Forest for the trees. Her last paragraph is rather disturbing.

BTW, is that REALLY her photo next to her column? She is a beautiful lady, inside and out.

"Here's the first installment, All Roads Lead to Iran, of my interview with Larisa Alexandrovna

Larisa is a journalist, essayist and poet. She is currently managing editor of Raw Story where she writes about intelligence and national security.

This page at Wikipedia has links to lots of her work, including interviews with Scott Ritter, Michael Ledeen and Joe Wilson, as well as her series of articles about pre-war intelligence and the subsequent coverup.

Larisa was first to report that Valerie Plame's work at Brewster Jennings was primarily focused on tracking WMDs in Iran, and suggesting that her outing may have been related to that work.

26. Thx...
Never read that one...certainly explains the weird stuff that gets posted by their Poet-in-Chief.

"cookie company"?

Good to see she has a real grasp on reality... :eyes:

Her OP comments are pretty righteous though -- ya 'the standards thing' that brings us to a point where grown men find collegiality in attacking free speech with violence against women is getting a little out of hand.

Hate to sound equally sexist -- but what happened to the real men that might say to Silwa, well if you want to beat a woman, you'll have to go through me first, fucker. TV camera or NO TV camera.

Silwa, FOX, Hannity, etc etc basically want a violent police state so I guess he and his friends can go out and beat lesbians like Rosie O'Donnell with baseball bats....and they publicly state it everyday. That's their vision of America. Hopefully someone will stop them.

Larisa would have had a bit more bite...

IMO,This is insighting violence! I am sure faux is aware that it sounds an awful lot like gay bashing and they should apologize to Rosie.

Like the guy who would hold Rosie's arms behind while she's being beaten with a baseball bat.

That only underscores her point.

15. Wow
Years ago I read an excerpt from the as-yet-unpublished book "Blinded By the Right", in which author David Brock claimed the Conservatives he associated with understood that, being in the minority, they could never get in power legitimately. Brock said these Neocons had made the decision to accomplish their goals "by any means necessary". I realized then (or thought I did) just how serious a threat Brock's former colleagues were to our country. Six years later we are seeing the results of this determined, well-funded minority, who are willing to take us down with them if they can't control us. :scared:

There is truly something in the air...the storm clouds seem to be forming. This could be an explosive summer, especially now that we know the Dems are not working for We, The People.

Maybe We, The People are approaching critical mass. I just pray there is no False Flag operation that will direct We, The Peoples' anger from where it should be focused.

The other day when W said to be prepared for a 'bloody' August, I got chills.

24. Sliwa's a punk, he's always been a punk, and there is little chance he will
ever be anything other than a punk.

Having failed to ever understand that violence always generates more violence, he is the poster boy for the reich-wing. From his early days as the founder of the "guardian angels" to his present decrepitude as a fascist punk, he always traded in fear and violence.

Rosie was comparatively measured when contrasted with Elizabeth whatshername. Rosie just kept trying to get the blonde to take her side which the dumb one refused to do. "'Hassel' right on 'beck' to the GOPer position" was so strident and loud that Rosie could hardly get a word in edgewise. Am I just so prejudiced I misread the whole scene or not?

30. No, you're right. Actually, what Elizabeth does BEST is interrupt and
talk over people, disallowing any chance of their making their point. WHEN she wants to.

Rosie has made it clear that Elizabeth and ONLY Elizabeth got coaching on political issues by the producter every morning. It seems to me she also got special encouragement while on air to do that noisy fingers in her ear "I can't hear you" routine.

She's always been despicable (well, for as long as I've watched which isn't that long), but after this my contempt for her is massive.

Hell no, what the media saw, and what the media is showing, is large and assertive lesbian brunette vs. cute and squeaky skinny blonde Christian.

Nevermind that the squeaky blonde is a few dudes short of a ranch and behaved like a harpy on crack. It's about fleshtoy vs. independent woman. Which one is the "bad guy" in this exercise? See, I wonder.

We do seem to be buidling up to something
We have troops overextended with punishing redeployments. We have people whose jobs are outsourced who have used up all their unemployment and who pray they don't get sick in the meantime. We have tainted food that is coming into our nation because we lack the proper safeguards to keep it out. And all these problems can be traced back to our government and how it is NOT working for the people any more. Couple that with the disappointing vote on funding Bush's war Bush's way.....somewhere, somebody's gonna crack, I'm afraid, and do something terrible. It won't be an act of terrorism by al Qaeda but an act of desperation by someone at the end of their rope.

My concern is that this is what Bush is waiting for. He'll declare marital law and become the dictator he has always wanted to be. The question then becomes--will he have enough people to back him up, or will enough people decide to take Jefferson's advice?

33. Wow. Bravo Larisa. Favorite:
While the President is reigning as the bully-in-chief and in desperation threatening a reporter's children, and Boehner is sobbing while stating lies as a matter of fact, and grown men have resorted to threatening to beat to death a celebrity on national television, even the nation's aristocracy is not immune and is falling apart at the seams.

And the best one liner:

"2 + 2 = whatever we are told"
