Another four Fort Richardson soldiers have died in Iraq, bringing to nine the number of paratroopers from the post who lost their lives in the past week.
The surge in paratroopers' deaths began last Thursday when three 25th Division troops died in an explosion. The emotional consequences have spread from Fort Richardson to the soldiers' families across the United States.
"One is too many," said post spokesman Chuck Canterbury. "It's been heavy duty. It's just one of these things we have to work our way through."
Three paratroopers were killed Monday in south Baghdad when several roadside bombs exploded near their vehicle, the Army said in a statement released Wednesday. Two other Fort Richardson soldiers were seriously injured in that explosion.

Forty-three paratroopers have lost their lives since the 3,500-member 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division deployed last fall.
